Nickelsville Needs Gravel!

  1. Hey everyone!

In working off the extra calories from our big feast from our Birthday par-tay this past Saturday, we are working on building a bridge and stairway for our new, relocated entrance, which brings up a current need; gravel.

Structure Masters tell me we need 3 yards of -5/8 gravel, to fill in the steps, and the gaps on either side of the bridge.

So, I'm putting out a request to our supporters in WSB-Land, to anyone that might be able to get the gravel, and/or provide delivery.

Today will likely be the only day I'll be at the library, (and it's reliable internet connection) for several more days, so please forgive me if I can't respond to postings on this thread in a timely manner.

I'm generally on the net in Camp, between 8:30-ish and 10:30-ish in the evenings, with the occasional late morning, or early-mid afternoon visits, and all of that is dependent on getting a reliable signal down there.

    Thanks!
    Mike

  2. Mike - your gravel will be delivered on Wednesday sometime on 9/28/2011. I have given Glacier the phone number for the camp and also on YOUR cell phone. Enjoy!

I have no gravel, but I do have a question. I have several unused space bags that I would love to donate, but do you guys have a use for them? I figure anything waterproof would be put to good use, or am I fishing up the wrong creek?

    Kevin...you have me thinking.

Wonder what it would cost to cover the common and tent areas of NV in 3-4" of gravel. Would really help with drainage and the mud field that will exist when Fall, Winter, and Spring brings rain and snow.

Other areas could be covered with wood chips (Mark Harmon of Stonehedge Tree Experts recently dropped off 10 yards for NV. Thanks Mark! http://www.stonehedgetree.com/Welcome.html )

3 yards of gravel cost $75 -perhaps we can all chip in for a larger delivery? 1 yard equals a 3' x 3' x 3' cube.

  9. Continuing... 1 cubic yard at 4 inches depth would run us 27 square feet per yard. How many yards can we buy! I'm gonna estimate that WE might be looking at 100 + yards,
    .
But that "Steve guy" (aka BBQ) who does nothing but BS and leave all the WORK to JoB, may tell us that we need more? Bless his heart, as HE knows about such things.much than I do :)
    .
How about you other folks out there (YES, I'm talking to YOU!) in WSB land. You got a spare $25 you can chip in? Hey... I've been outta work for 2+ years but still managed to find a spare $75 bucks. Come on... it does not hurt near as bad as you think!
    .
    just sign me...

Kevin...if NV will use/needs more gravel..I'll match your three yards!

Any other takers? Remember, one yard only cost $25.00.

  13. WAY to go folks! funkietoo offered three yards and Celeste offered one yard. And I will MATCH you BOTH! Wonder what that "Steve guy" may do? Oh wait - he already arranged for a 140 # hog. We'l let him off the hook :)

Eight yards art 4 inches will yeid (sorry - can't figure out all the extra zeros on my calculator machine) will yield a LOT of extra material!

Oh yes, did I mention that Glacier takes MC and Visa???

  14. Wow! Thanks, everyone!

I know we'll be able to put more gravel to good use, but future deliveries should probably be arranged through our Staff Person, Scott Morrow at 206-450-9136, or, scott AT nickelsville DOT org.

This request today was pretty much because we needed some ASAP to complete our project which is on a timeline.

Debbie, I'm sure we could use those, but it might be best if you could check ahead either calling down here at Camp, at 206-450-5268 and asking for a Donation Coordinator, or contacting Scott as noted above.

BTW, that gravel that was supposed to be delivered Wednesday, as early as 6:30 am, was actually delivered as early as 3:00pm TODAY!!!

    We were pleasantly surprised!

I'd actually called down to Camp, after leaving the library, about ten minutes before to give Security a heads-up that they might be getting a phone call from Glacier about some gravel, and that I'd fill them in on all the details when I got back to Camp. Little did we know that the gravel would beat me by about 45 minutes!

Again, huge thanks to Kevin, Glacier, and everyone who has responded here!

Hey Kevin! Would you mind finding out if NV:
    1) would like the additional 5 yards of gravel?
    2) would want to cover even more of their city with say 5"-6" deep with gravel, i.e, common area, paths and in front of the tents, etc.,
    3) will the city allow them to bring in that much gravel?
    3) if the answer is yes, to #2 & #3, are there some folks that can measure the area so we know how much gravel would be needed.

Once we know the answers to the above, I am happy to 'solicit' for funds and 'in kind' donations of gravel, and even possible someone that can use their compactor on the gravel. The compactor would bring the depth down fro 5-6" to about 3-4" (this was the result in my backyard).

Please feel free to email me at funkietoo@hotmail.com
