I went to Mawadda Cafe last night. Oh goodness me ... delicious! The baklava was amazing ... not too sweet, flaky phyllo ... fantastic. Of course they make it there. My falafel sandwich was superb ... the falafel was not overfried, like I have had at many other places. Finally ... the greek fries with garlic sauce ... just thinking about them makes me want to head over there now. We waited less than 20 minutes for our food. Quite frankly ... the quality of the food and service speaks to the "love" they put into the ingredients they use and the skill of preparation. Welcome to West Seattle Mawadda Cafe!

I tried it last week. The food came out faster than I was expecting. It was very good. Only problem: the falafel contains nutmeg. Damn. They're tasty but I have an allergy. Staff was very very nice.

Haven't seen this place yet. Are their menu's mainly Mediterranean?

here's the menu from their Rainier Valley website...it'll give you a basic idea...

Was there today. Had the gyro sandwich, greek fries, and side salad. It was good. The service was WONDERFUL!! I still prefer Kokoras in the Morgan Junction. Something about their gyro meat sets them apart. I would certainly go back to Mawadda and wish them the best! As a caution to others, their tzatziki dressing is VERY garlicky.

We gave it 2nd chance today. The food is just OK, and the service is really slow. I could have been to Kokoras & back by the time we were served. I really don't get why what is essentially fast food takes so long.
Heads up for those with food allergies! I asked the waiter to leave off an item I can't eat. They didn't, but still gave me the so-what shrug when I pointed it out.

I had lunch there last week. It was yummy, and the wait (not very long) allowed me time to talk with my lunch friend. The greek fries were yummy, the chicken shawarma delightful..rice was excellent. If I wanted fast food, I suppose I could go to McD's, or JITB. It's not just a run in and get a gyro place. It's not just a greek place like Kokoras. Apples and oranges. It's a nice little neighborhood cafe...I'll go again, I'm sure. Warning>>> garlic, garlic, garlic :)

Now I'm hungry for garlic!
Maybe it's time to make a trip to Omar Al-Khyam in Renton. They have the best garlic puree, shaved so fine that it seems like a dollop of cream on top of the dish.
Yum!
Back to Maddawa, I'm glad that my experiences aren't the norm. I do hope they succeed, and the location works out for them.

OMG is Omar Al-Khyam still there? I used to eat there often when I worked at Boeing in the 80's. That was always my fave mediteranian food, very authentic Lebanese food! I really liked Mawadda although it is a bit different than I am used to (like Omar's). Good addition to the neighborhood.
