I found out today that if the floor in the garage is wet car tires will "catch" and make a squeaking sound. Don't be afraid; it isn't your power-steering failing or a flat tire. Felt like I was on Mr Toad's Wild Ride and was certain I was not going to be driving to work tomorrow morning until I witnessed other cars bucking and screeching with every turn! It must be the "anti-slip" coating on the floor

You can get a gallon size bucket of rotor wash out at Boeing field, for abut $4.99 to fix that problem right up.

How funny. I stopped by QFC, about 30mins ago, on my way home from a birthday party, and noticed the same thing. Sounded awful (or, equally, "hilaaaaaaarious!" as my 5-year-old pointed out) at first, but then realized everyone was doing it, and that it must just be something with the coated floors.

Yeah, probably the sealant on the garage floor, and if the surface is smooth, as opposed to grooved, that might contribute as well.
At least one of the parking garages I worked in Downtown, many years ago, would have that occur.
Another fun thing was when there was snow, and people would have the cable chains on their tires. The last location I worked, the cashier booth was right where the exit ramp from the garage began it's incline. So, when customers stopped to pay, typically the front wheels would be on the incline, back wheels still on the flat.
It was a bit annoying, yet at the same time a bit comical, to have the customer start pulling away after paying, and the tires would be spinning, grabbing very little, and sparking!
This would also happen as they drove up the ramps from the lower floors, but not neccesarily to the extent as the one at the booth, because coming up from the lower floors, they'd usually have a fair amount of momentum already.
It was a good way to alert me that somebody was on their way up! ;-)

I was there earlier and thought I had run over something! It wasn't until I overheard a couple in the elevator talking about the same thing did I realize it was some kind of coating on the floor.

Is it just an annoying sound, or are you losing traction and slipping on the roadway as well?
And has anyone told QFC about this so they might do something about it?

I was there last night also and heard the noise as soon as my tires rolled onto the surface. My car didn't lose traction. The noise comes from the tire rubber on the wet parking surface. There isn't much that can be done about it short of stripping the coating.
I don't mind. It won't stop me from shopping there.Posted 2 years ago # -
My car loses traction in the garage and feels like I'm driving on studded tires. Very weird. I hate it.

I've had my car & truck in there without any problems.
I love that the kids & I don't get soaked when we are loading / unloading.
Also - the prices are great. Not Trader Joes - but there are a lot of great deals.

Funny that the shiny new Capco Plaza seems to have as many or more issues with its parking set-up than the long-deplored Jefferson Square across the street!

A pipe burst in the lower lots the other day and it was INSANE. Think that screeching times 1,000. Plus it was leaking through the ceiling on the lower level. Very apocalyptic.

I have a Subaru and I feel like the car handles very poorly when I'm driving in that garage when it's wet. Also, the surface is EXTREMELY slippery for walking. I almost slipped walking back to my car the other week, and when I was getting into my car a woman totally slipped nearby and fell flat on her @ss. I rushed over to help her because it did not sound good- she was able to shake it off, but I was worried for her! Be careful in there when it's wet!
I will put up with the noise, etc.. because it is SO NICE to be in a garage when it's raining out!

Since the "garage" is topic. They need visible sign- age for the in and out lane. My first experience in the 'garage" was I got in the wrong elevator and ended up on the side street-who knew it wasn't QFC's elevator? Again signage...prices aren't the best there for the trouble of the garage.
