doncha just love getting a new printer, and it requires a USB cable, but they don't include it? What's up with that, anyway? So, before I run out to the local or not so local cable supply store, and since I know there are some self-proclaimed geeks on here...I thought I'd see if someone has an extra one laying around somewhere that they might be willing to part with?

Ha! This is funny, I had the same dilemma last night but I am a geek so I found a spare in my box of random electronic cables and guts. I'm glad that you found one as well, Jan!

FYI
The printer industry is notorious for this cost cutting tactic.Back when printers used a parallel interface (centronix connector) They stopped including cables in printer they sold unless they were over $1000.00 printers. (around 1988 for the midrange and 1992 for the "home" user.
Also note your ink cartridges or toner cart might be also short "demo" carts or even undersized carts which might have to be replaced with proprietary "full" cartridges in the near future for more than the printer cost.

Ken, which is why I always check the price of ink first, on a printer I'm looking at. Wide variation in prices, even within same manufacturer.

well, so far I'm batting 1000...I got the absolutely brand new still in box printer on freecycle...yes, free...and I was lucky enough to get a USB cable (I really would have bought one, but thought I'd try here first)...and the ink cartridges are full size...
so I guess we'll see...:)

I have to start on my pile of unused printers and sort out the ones that still work from the ones to expensive to fix or use. I have a great expensive (at the time) copier that needs 200.00 worth of printheads. I have to give up on fixing it since nearly anyone who needs a copier can justify leasing a good one or make do with a cheap scanner and laser printer like I do.
Maybe I will post the specs and estimated parts needed on here in case it seems worthwhile to someone else.
Now that I can turn in the ecycle stuff I have to load up the station wagon and get some space back.
