New Pavement on Bridge

  1. OK, so I am breaking the first rule of rants - I have not taken this to the owner as it is very difficult to find someone willing to take responsibility here.

Ths has been mentioned here before, but the recently complete roadwork on the West Seattle Bridge is simply unacceptable for new roadway construction. It is significantly rougher than the existing high rise portion of this drive that has been in service for quite a while.

And no I am not talking about the dips for the future ramp off/on 1st Ave South. I am speaking about the entire section between I-5 and 1st Ave South.

A completed roadway of such poor quality will wear down much more quickly than it should, due to the neverending bounce of cars. This is along-term maintenance issue, not a driving comfort issue.

Totally unacceptable to take this long for a project and not even do a professional job.

  2. You're talking about the Spokane Street Viaduct, right? That project is nowhere near done. I would assume some resurfacing will occur before the project is completed next summer.

  3. The viaduct is correct, thanks. It looks to me like the final product (drains all level, etc), but I hope you are correct.

i had the same thoughts, rico.

but there's a bigger picture to consider, and i'll reserve judgment until fall of 2012, when the whole thing is scheduled to be finished:

my hope is that once the entire width of the twin viaducts are complete, the westbound roadway will shift to the south on the new span by about 8 or 10 feet, and that the rough patches we drive on now will become the shoulder/breakdown lane of the westbound viaduct.

happy motoring, and keep a good, sane following distance in the new year. may your crashes be few!
