Need Vancouver Island recommendations

  1. We are new to Seattle (moved here in Dec) and are looking to vacation on Vancouver Island this summer. 1) What month is best 2) Where should we stay?
We are a family of 4 which includes two children under the age of 3.

    Thanks for your guidance!

  2. DCoop -- my ALL TIME FAVORITE place on V.I. is The Kingfisher Resort and Spa -- they have a great website you can check out. I've been there at all times of the year, if it's raining, I just do more reading and spa stuff, if it's nice out, there are lots of things to do nearby.

I will mention that it's basically a full day of travel, 2 hours north to the ferry terminal, then a 2 hour crossing and another hour or two north to the area.

Not sure it'd be the best most fun choice with kidlets but I wouldn't hesitate to take mine (I too have 2 under the age of 3). Oh, and they have a world class restaurant!!! YUM YUM

  3. If you haven't ever been to Victoria, B.C., I would suggest going there first, then if your vacation is more than a week, heading to another spot on the island - I'm not familiar with the one Jissy mentions but I visited the west coast some years back and loved Long Beach as well as the Tofino/Clayoquot Sound area. If you're just going for a week, there's so much around Victoria, you can't go wrong. Been there many times (most recently just before Christmas - that is a great time to visit - Butchart Gardens lights, etc.) and still enjoy it. Summer's busy, though ... unless you go toward the end, in mid- to late August.

Make sure the Royal British Columbia Museum in Victoria is on your to-do list! It has fantastic exhibits, and if you're new to the area it will be a great and fun introduction to the human and natural history of the region. And if you're staying in Victoria for a night or too, the museum is in easy an easy walk from most of the downtown hotels, as is Beacon Hill Park, a great place to take the kids to run off some steam.

  5. My sisters and I had a great time last July at Sooke Harbour. We stayed at the Sooke Harbour Resort & Marina. Great condos, easy access to crabbing from the marina docks. On-site water sport and bike rentals. Awesome! Nearby hiking, a Meadery, spas. We liked it so much we are going again this July, this time with our daughters. Took the clipper to Victoria, rented a car. You can take in Victoria on one end or the other, or both!

  6. Definitely Butchart Gardens. They even have a great carousel. And I highly recommend the fireworks show, which, I believe, they present starting in late June. Beacon Hill Park, in downtown Victoria, is also fun for kids. Lots of room to run and play (or crawl), plus a cute children's zoo.

  7. what do you want to do?
Beach, forest, city, lake, river, luxury, rustic, hike, drive, boat, etc?

You can't go wrong on the island, but "vacation" doesn't tell us much.
