   I'm planning on submitting a request to the city to mark the crosswalk at 38th & Alaska (intersection with the firestation, Chaco Canyon, & Les Schwab) but before I do, I'm curious what others who live near here think.

   I cross at this intersection multiple times per day, usually going to/from the bus stop near Fauntleroy and Alaska. The intersection is marked with a flashing yellow light for the fire station, however, it seems like it'd be helpful for pedestrians to have the crosswalk marked as well. I've nearly been hit a few times- as because of the parking situation, you have to creep out from behind parked cars to get into the intersection. Thoughts?

   While I am in agreement with you, lots of pedestrians cross here, SDOT is not planning a marked crosswalk. Two links are below describing the Triangle plan. Alaska will be re-worked so that it will likely be easier to cross on foot (this is what happened to Fauntleroy after Fauntleroy was changed a couple years ago, it's much better to use as a pedestrian now). It would be worth contacting SDOT with your concerns:

   Um...isn't there a lighted cross walk at Fauntleroy already...so you want another within a block?

   I agree that that's a dangerous area for peds and a lot of drivers seem to use that area as a cut-through to avoid congestion on Fauntleroy.

   If you aren't already familiar with the city's proposed zoning changes for the triangle, you might want to search the Blog for 'triangle zoning change'. The proposed changes would include 'establish[ing] a pedestrian (P) designation along SW Alaska Street between 36th Avenue SW and 41st Avenue SW'.

   In my experience, the city won't make additions such as a crosswalk until the changes are approved; however, it won't hurt to make your concerns known. I think this is the most recent article on the changes:

   There are also upcoming improvements related to Metro's RapidRide stops at Cal/Alaska. There are plans to designate some or all of the curb lanes in that area as 'bus-only' which would also improve sight lines for peds and drivers.

   Yes, another marked crosswalk within the block would be nice. With 200+ new residents in the Link building, plus Bright Horizons kids, Chaco Canyon, Cycle U and Les Schwab customers all crossing here there is markedly increased pedestrian traffic that a marked crosswalk would help.

   I'm not thinking a light- just a simple white paint marked crosswalk to bring visibility to drivers that there are lots of pedestrians in the area.
