NV is preparing for a new and improved way of sorting, storing and removing waste. And thanks to Waste Management, NV will be getting two FREE recycle containers with FREE pick up to be scheduled every two weeks starting soon. KUDOS to Waste Management. To further assist in the sorting, storing and removal of waste products for the safety of the residents and the 'greening' of their encampment, we are hoping to acquire the following: 9 sturdy,rubber,32 gallon garbage cans where the lid is either 1.) attached (think recycle bins) or 2. the lid has a hole or a hole can be drilled to attach by zip tie/rope to the grip handle of the base. If any of you have extra cans that meet this criteria and could deliver to NV by Monday, you would be adored. Having scouted out the local area, McLendon's in White Center has these cans on sale for $9.99 through Sunday 2/5 and Ace Hardware in Burien has them for the same price on sale through the entire month of February. Thanks, in advance, to the wonderful SW Seattle community who is helping Nickelsville. Due to the timing, please feel free to contact joanne@brayden.org if you can donate but cannot deliver. Thanks again!

Make a call or send a message to Waste Management. Maybe they would donate even more with all the 'press' ?

Still waiting for word on garbage cans...

Adelle, do we still need the garbage cans? If yes, this is a bump. I'll bring some to job later today but can't manage all 9.

  6. we do still need garbage cans for the recycling project...
which will hopefully be in place by next weekend:)

Nickelsville could also use garbage cans to store pet food and kitty litter

and to create a recycling program for wet and/or discarded clothing

i am beginning to have a lot more respect for the humble garbage can :)

Okay, I emailed Charla about whether I am to pick them up from Ace Hardware....I need to go to work and can't check email until I get home around 2:30. The earliest I can pick up the cans is around 3:15 or 3:30. I will also pick up some zip ties and when I deliver will make sure I let the folks know the intent there. The rest of my week is pretty swamped, so 'today is the day'. Charla, I typically don't answer my cell phone when with clients, but I will send a personal email with my cell phone so that you can text or call me if we are crossing our wires.

Super Kudos to Charlabob for purhcasing 9 garbage cans at Ace Hardware. I was able to pick them up around 3:00 and get them down to Nickelsville where I happened to run into JoB. The residents who greeted us were excited about being more 'green' and getting new garbage cans. THANK YOU, Charlabob !!! That is a wonderful gift.

I'll bet there are some people who can't imagine someone being excited over a garbage can. If so, they need to visit Nickelsville. They are so happy when they receive the things they need to accomplish or plan for project. Unlikely things to others sometimes count a lot to them. They try so hard constantly to make it the best they can there. It really is about more than just living in a tent.

    My pleasure!

We bought one with wheels for ourselves and we can't wait for Monday (garbage day) so I definitely understand the excitement.
