Movers - recommendation wanted

  1. We are in the market to hire movers. The MUST be licensed and bonded -- no "somebody's kid with a truck" move this time. Seriously, though. We're moving about 15 blocks, and need the strong backs and insurance backup of professionals.

Looking for an estimate to include packing our stuff, and another estimate with us packing our own stuff. I've reached out to Starving Students and having a hard time connecting with the salesperson there.

Is there a company you've used that you particularly like? Dislike? Commentary on how we should hire your college student instead? ;-)

  2. We used Sprint Moving when we moved a couple years ago. I can't say enough good things about them. They are a local and family owned business. Very nice and profession. We had three movers and they were some of the quickest and most careful people I have ever seen. They came in significantly under estimate and were very careful of the furniture and floor and walls. And we had a very difficult house, many floors and narrow passageways. Our realtors had used them a number of times and only heard good things. I highly, highly recommend them.

Starving students get bad reviews on Yelp. If you do not get a morning move, don't trust any mover that tells you they will be there at a particular time in the afternoon. They really can't tell and if you are in a time crunch it can be very unpleasant--speaking as someone who just had that happen. Good luck.

  6. I used Express Installation Services about two years ago in SODO and they were great. I called last minute during the holidays and I was happy they could fit me in. Overall quick service (I think they moved me from the Junction to Gatewood from a 3 story building in 1.5 hours). Nice guys too. I've moved since and used Gentle Giant. They were not as adept at moving my couch...they had to remove the door from the house while EIS managed just fine) and they took much longer than I expected for a six block move. They were good, but I was happier with EIS. Good luck moving!

  7. Redmond helped us with our move down here to San Francisco. Very nice guy, pleasure to work with. Mitchell Moving works with Atlas and we had a very good experience with them.

Super Friends Moving!!! Great hard workers, on time, responds to inquiry within a day (hours for us) and very reasonable rates. I'm going to use them again for the rest of the house move! Local company and very knowledgeable of Seattle and moving requirements. Not a rinky-dink operation of a bunch of students or slackers.

I've used two different movers and can recommend them both:

Adam's was a few years ago and they were great. I think they were the most professional and they came with their own truck. There were no scratches on ANYTHING. It was almost eerie.

I just recently used Aaron's Glide and they were good too. The downside with AG is that you have to provide your own truck. That can be a hassle depending. I rented a U-Haul and it was no big deal. They bring their own trucks and blankets though. They were a lot less than Adam's but, really, it ended up being closer than I thought. They did put some tiny dings in a few things but it was all Ikea--so nothing major. Ikea sucks.

I have tips too if you want. :)

We used Awesome Movers when we moved last summer, and they were the best we have ever had! Efficient, fast, and very reasonable. I highly recommend them! Contact them at 206 491-7286 and ask for Mike. You can also read some additional five-star reviews at yelp.com

  14. ellenater is right on about Aaron Glide. We used them when we moved from north Seattle to West Seattle a dozen years ago. They are GREAT, and very reasonable. The reason that YOU rent the truck is because that way they don't have to jump through all the hoops of running a trucking company.
    .
They are simply providing experienced moving help! And they do a real good job at a real good price. You can even "help" if you want - to bring the cost down a bit. You are paying by the hour. They will even drive your rented truck if you wish.
    .
Handy Andy Truck rental in North Seattle is pretty good to deal with, but U-Haul in WS would probably work just fine too.
    .
As a former long haul trucker (LONG LONG ago) I always tell people to rent the largest truck available. Makes loading a LOT simpler!

We've used Adam's Moving Service twice, once for a move from a house in Ballard to an apartment near Green Lake. And then from the apartment to our house in West Seattle. They were quick and professional, gave us free boxes (a one-time deal), and everything arrived in great shape. I don't plan on leaving this house but if I do, they're my first choice.

  16. I've used Mountain Movers twice (in 2006 and 2011) and was happy both times. They were recommended by a friend who had another moving line up that was late and kept promising "we'll be there in an hour" She contacted Mountain after finding them on line and they showed up last minute. Price was reasonable also.

  17. Aim, can't believe you didn't ask us!

    Budget Movers.

Trust me. We've used them a few times!
