I've suddenly realized that the two or three cats that once tormented my dear Zoe in the back yard have disappeared and appear to have been replaced by "Mickey" and a few of his friends......

I'm thinking I'd like to get a cat - BUT - I'm very allergic to cats, so it would have to be an outdoor kitty - how do I do this? All the cats I know rule the houses they let their masters live in.

  2. A couple of my friends fostered a feral cat for this reason, but he still primarily lives in the house. An outdoor-only cat isn't likely to have a long life around here for various reasons (cars, coyotes...).

By the way, if you do get a cat, look for one who's stayed with his/her mother for several months. Mousers aren't born; they're taught.

  4. I adopted two abandoned kitties about 17 years ago, when they were found they were way to young to be taken from their mother AND they were great hunters. They did like to play more than consume their prey, but they would hunt, bring it home, leave it for me to find.

They are brother and sister, at our former house they loved to hunt as a team in the yard.

  5. mouser = small mammal hunter = bird killer = coyote lunch. I suggest you talk to a vet or other person educated (not from websites; LOTS of misinformation and uneducated opinion there) in regard to the repercussions of keeping outdoor cats. It might change your mind and will certainly help you make a more informed choice.

  6. Feral cats are much different than friendly cats. I do agree that not all cats be it friendly or feral will hunt. Barn cat r us.

There is a process ok and no organization can guarantee a feral cat will hunt.LOL

I am sorry I do not know how to tiny url stuff. Ruth relo's feral cats from KCAC.

Also feral or friendly cats are NOT the reason why so many birds are dying.
http://www.naturalnews.com/031076_USDA_bird_deaths.html. hope this website works too. Some one was "taking" it down.

Sorry not to put down vets but they are not going to know much in regards of relocating feral cats.

Feral cats survive coyotes much better than a friendly cat does.

There is a lot of negative comments about feral cats on this blog in the past. Yes educate yourself see what fits. heck poison might work for ya. who knows..

  7. I never understood why people counter the fact that outdoor cats kill birds with "but other things kill MORE birds."
    .
Have you considered a breed that triggers allergies to a lesser extent? I've heard of it in dogs, so maybe it exists in cats as well. I really don't know. Another question for a vet.

Thank you Hammerhead -this sounds exactly like what I was hoping for. Looks like an amazing program that works for human and feline!!

No go on finding a non-allergenic cat for me - wish I could. I've actually always wanted a kitten/cat!!
