missing cats

  1. Have seen too many "Please check your garages and sheds"--how about "Please check for chubby coyotes"! THREE missing cat signs on a telephone pole at 37th and Manning. Keep your cats inside and reality in check.

Not to feed a troll, but WOW you really sound like a jerk.

  3. Not sure he is a troll, but I live close to him, I have seen the same signs and the chubby coyote. Ok, the coyote is not really chubby, but he looks healthy!

If 'mehud7' is who I think it may be, they are not a troll or a jerk. This person saves animals; gets them any needed medical care; then finds good, safe homes. Seeing 'missing cat' signs is very disturbing and sad--especially to those of us that are in the volunteer business of saving animals; lives.

The provided advice is sound and comes from a place of caring. When we let our animals roam unattended, knowing there are coyotes in West Seattle, we are putting our beloved pets in danger.

If mehud7 is not who I think it is, the advice is still sound. Said it before, will say it again: outdoor enclosure for cats and small dogs. My cats have two enclosures, with 24 hour access to them and they are always safe. Don't get hit by cars; don't eat/drink poison (antifreeze); no cat fight injuries; don't become an appetizer for a coyote; don't poop in my neighbors' yards.

funkietoo That would require people to take full responsibility for thier pets. Not just feeding them but also making responsible decissions on restraining them for thier own good. If your children were playing outside and a coyte was stalking them would you leave them to defend themselves? Well.. you have the same responsibility to your pets.

  6. I totally agree with Mehud. Domestic cats are meant to be indoor animals. Yes, it's more convenient to put them outside, yes, they may be unhappy if not allowed outside..but who's the decision maker in this equation? My little Leo is perfectly happy in here with me, and safe, and won't be on any missing poster any time soon :)

  7. Guys, I've been flagged on this. Please avoid namecalling. Certainly it was kind of a brusque way to open the topic (which we will be addressing on the main page one of these decades as frankly the coyote and raccoon stories continue to pile up plus I still have a sheaf of advice provided by a fine local animal advocate whom I asked for help weeks ago re: converting outdoor cats to indoors) - but there's also always the option to just ignore somebody if you think they are throwing flamebait. Thanks.

Mehud7 is a cat rescue person and devotes tons of their own time and money into doing it. This person, like Hammerhead (FCAT), also has a full-time job. It's no wonder that from time to time they reach a breaking point.

If you want to help they are about to have a ton of kittens at Next to Nature and will be doing adoption events all weekend. Stop by and donate - they gladly accept time (volunteer), money, cat food ... be a part of the solution ...

  12. Thanks for your kind words 2krazy4words. Hammerhead does have tons of cute rescued kittens-like the kittens we will have at Next to Nature, most are in the 3-4 month old range. Adoption fees for kittens five months and younger are $125 for one or $200 for two, older kittens and cats are $100 for one or $160 for two. All have been spayed or neutered, combo tested, vaccinated and treated for parasites. Shelters are full right now and adoption rates, and donations are down. KOMO 4 news just had a story reporting the same issues. More and more folks are returning their cats too.
