As I made what felt like my 50 billionth school lunch for my kids this morning I started thinking it would be cool if I could hear what other people make for their kids that is new and different. Dinner too for that matter - I get SO tired of thinking about what to make for dinner every night!
I was thinking of a cookie-exchange format meet up where everyone came with a dozen ideas - we could pick the ones we liked and each walk away with some new great tricks and ideas!
Or if that sounds too much - share here??
Today's lunch was open faced bagel with cucumber herbed cream cheese (pretty much all I had in the veggie bin), sliced oranges and a yogurt. I'm not talking complicated - my kids are older but kind of picky - nor am I only interested in super healthy, though I am pretty opposed to junk food at school...maybe I'm just so sick of it I'm goin a little cRaZy!!

That sounds like a great idea! We've just started packing lunches for our toddler to take to daycare, and we've been a little stuck at how to provide nutritious food that will appeal to a two-year old's palate. If there's more interest, maybe we can all get together at a kid-friendly venue to share our ideas.

My wife is obsessed with dinner. Hence the name of her blog. She makes me sit down every Sunday and plan the meals out for the week. There are some great ideas in there. Check it out.

We too make our dinner menus for the week on Sunday mornings and then do the shopping. It makes me crazy to go into the grocery store day after day. I will have to check out the above blog as we are always trying out something new.

We use bento boxes for lunches. It is a real hit with the toddler in my home. We use these cool egg molds to mold hard boiled eggs into shapes. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=egg+molds&x=12&y=22
There are also great books on bento lunches for kids. The Diaso stores have lots of cool shape cutters, paper trays, picks and separaters for the boxes with fun characters or designs on them. Uwajimaya has some stuff too.Posted 1 year ago # -
I am now obsessed with "obsessed with dinner"! Thanks for the link!!!

Yes, "Obsessed with Dinner" is so great!! Some great links too! I have done the Bento box lunch but my kids are older now and the portions need to be a bit more. The Bento style lives on in my lunches, though, as I pack most everything in tupperware (style) containers mostly because my kids really hate smashed food!
I am glad to know that I am not the only one who thinks about this constantly so thanks for sharing!
Not to depress any of you young moms, but my friends and I figured out one day, that we (with 2 kids) will likely make well over 4,000 school lunches!! I really don't mind doing it - my kids definitely make their own lunches more often now (they are 13 & 15) but it's still my choice to offer ideas and ingredients and they definitely like my lunches best.
If anyone ever wants to get together, bring friends or kids, I would still love to share those and we can meet at my shop in Westwood Village any time.
Thanks again - it was inspiring and validating to hear from you all!Posted 1 year ago #
