    Tuesday Night Showdown?

Ok, I am thinking there will be limited drinking games tonight. But seriously, how many times do you think McCain is going to say "Win in Iraq" (and what does that really mean?) or "Surrender". Hehhhh--Hehhhh--Hehhhh...

McCain and Sarah Palin are "Mavericks" on a race course of Ferrari's and Tesla's. And they are being left behind, far far behind in the race to the white-house with only dirty linen smear tactics.

As much as McCain wants to avoid the subject of our nations economy, the current situations will force the subject, and hopefully dialog on the real problems and crisis our nation is experiencing.

Time to leave flag-pins, casting doubt, perceived patriotism, fear, at the door and time to discuss the real issues the American people are interested in...

    Let the games begin-----------------once again...

  2. Yay. A new McCain/Palin bashing thread begins. I'm so excited.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  3. Now now....

I am really looking forward to this one. Each side has had a chance to step back, review the first one, wrap their heads around the financial crisis, see how their VPs performed etc.

My bet is that Obama will be more forceful, and McCain will try to appear more down-to-earth. Unfortauntely, in a town-hall format, Obama's job will be harder.

While it seems the McCain camp wants to "turn the page" on the financial crisis (it's still around right?) I am curious to see if he skirts it completely. Really not happy about the negative campaigns lately - on either side. But again, the Keating scandal seems far less of a reach then Ayers.

Anyway, excited for the Town Hall format. Bring it on!

JohnM - me too!! It should be great fun!

If you're concerned about facts being spread about McCain in this thread, please feel free to spread facts about Obama during tonite's debate.

Taking a cue from McCain's current tactics, I'll start things off: Obama's a terrorist, his middle name is 'Hussein', he's never accomplished anything, he's dangerous, and he's not like 'us'.

Anything more you'd like to add?

    Posted 3 years ago #
  5. Man... Keith Olberman was on FIRE last night about just those same issues. Same with Rachel Maddow... did anyone see that? I think I felt my hair blow back.

I don't know why we keep bashing Mccain/glorifying Obama. Everyone knows Obama is going to win. All he has to do is win New Hampshire. Washington State is so blue its going to turn purple one of these days.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  7. Vg -- you mis-spoke. he is not a terrorist....he's a muslim terrorist.

Alkidebbie -- hence the color of the WS-demo-Blog.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  8. Oh Christ... if I hear "muslim terrorist" one more time I'm going to be sick. JohnM, I hope I hear sarcasm.

Washington state has actually been in the *leaning blue* column until just the past week. Seattle is blue. The rest of the state is not and they almost cancel each other out, making us a near toss up state sometimes.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  10. CP...Yes, it was total sarcasm. As was my original post (#2).....

I don't believe any of the mud either candidate is slinging.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  11. Thank GOD! You never know... :)

I hate the mudslinging. If I want to watch that garbage I'll turn on Survivor or The Real World. I want the facts, "gosh darn it".

    Posted 3 years ago #
  12. This not about the upcoming debate, per se, but I'm in England right now, reading The Times, and here is a snippet of an article about the election that got me livid!!!

"At a rally in Albuquerque Mr McCain branded his opponent as a “Chicago politician” - a phrase redolent with corruption - as he asked: “Who is the real Senator Obama?” He said: “Senator Obama has accused me of opposing regulation. I guess he believes if a lie is big enough and repeated often enough it will be believed."

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black??!! I can't believe he had the audacity to say that. I am truly disgusted.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  13. Sorry, wasn't 'opposing regulation' the whole idea behind the GOP up until a week ago? I'm confused...

    Posted 3 years ago #
  14. RainyDay - you are so right! I was indignant over the phrase, 'I guess he believes if a lie is big enough and repeated often enough it will be believed." - that's bad enough, but your point is right on as well. I can hardly stand this, and we have another month to go!

The format will be interesting tonight with the town hall format, does anyone know if the candidates are able to ask each other questions or will all of the questions be posed from the audience members? What is the moderators role?

Obama simply ANSWERS the questions. McCain continues to reiterate the talking points, regardless of the question...Its pathetic.

I love how Obama tells it like it is - we'll all have to buck up, it wont be easy, and we'll have to set priorities....and treats everyone like intelligent citizens. His CNN satis. meter is consistently high this evening....

    Aren't cars battery powered already?

Is McCain really trying to bribe the public for votes?

$5K tax credit per child? Who wants to bet me it won't happen?

    Posted 3 years ago #
  21. McCain going back to these talking points is disgusting. Politics as usual during a time of crisis. No thanks.
I don't need to hear about how you are a maverick. I don't need to be reminded that you served our country. I need to know how you are going to fix the mess that is this country.

He looks like he is on his deathbed. Shoot he just might drop dead on the debate floor.

That would be one way to get him to keep within the time constraints.

  24. Aren't cars battery powered already?

    no.

Only those hybrids that have a conversion kit that cost more than the car at the moment. There are less than 10k of those also. (google plug in hybrid)

I had an electric car once. It used golf cart batteries wired in series at 24 and 48 volt banks. It was lost in a snow related barn collapse.

It was slow off the mark and cornered like a bathtub perched on stepladders..

Yawn... The format didn't allow questions to move into the next level of details. All of the information that was spewed had been already discussed and debated before.

I hope the next debate allows the candidates to ask each other questions.

All in all, Obama looked presidential and gave much more detail in his answers as he has in the past, but it was more of the same information we all have already heard. IMO

    Ken,

I guess I was over generalizing I was talking about the majority of cars on the road, that require a battery to function properly.

    ...bathtub on stepladders LOL!

  27. Man, Obama skirted one question Palin style! I don't remember what it was but I was a little disappointed that he didn't answer it. I thought it was stupid how he didn't get to respond to attacks (and that McCain didn't get to) I don't think it was effective. At all.

Overall though, Obama did MUCH better than McCain and MUCH better than he did last time. McCain pissed me off at numerous points during this debate with his lying. If I hear one more damn lie about Obama raising taxes I'm going to spew.

Less than one month out...other than the 20yo voter who lives at home with one Rep parent and one Dem parent (an example I used elsewhere)...WHAT are "undecided" voters waiting to hear??? I'm getting a little incredulous that people still don't know who they're going to vote for. Must be good craft services in these viewing forums. Sorry, just had to get that out.

McCain got Palinized and was much more aggressive in this debate - a sign of someone who is behind in the polls.
I was disappointed with Tom Brokaw. A moderator shouldn't interject his own questions with others.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  30. As displeased as I was about Brokaw's skills as a moderator, I was even more disappointed by McCain's "well... not you Tom" joke. Ugh. Cheap. That's a beloved national icon in the news industry - you don't say that kinda crazy stuff to anyone!

    Posted 3 years ago #
  31. Yeah, he was trying to pull off Palin-like zingers and he just came across as condescending and awkward. Not to mention old...old and tired.

"that one" might very well go down as McCain's Howard Dean yell. The grandpa-isms were in full force tonight, my friends.

Agreed, the whole moderator role seemed a little clumsy...

I have to say that McCain saying "That One" cracked me up. I heard my grandfather say that about one of his many grandchildren when he couldn't remember any of our names right away and at the moment...

The truth is that McCain left with the state of affairs our country is in, would age 10 years within the 1st year of a presidency...

The reality is that he would be best served sitting on his porch drinking ice tea.

He is way over his head ~ and it shows

I enjoyed how once again Obama outclassed McCain. Did anyone else notice how Obama went and greeted Cindy but McCain never once greeter or made eye contact with Michelle @ the end.

And on a side note, anyone else find it odd how Cindy just shadowed McCain @ the end when he was greeting individuals, but Mihcelle was out and about talking to the crowd. I defin. think it is important for us to be comfortable with our first lady so after last night Obama stepped up a notch in my book. :)

McCain has been doing himself in for quite a while. This isn't the guy I've pictured in my mind for years. I think he 'bought in' to most of the Bush admin's ideals, just until he caught on to the sinking ship. Now he wants to go back 8-10 years and assume that role (ignoring his record over the past 8-10 years).

Obama clearly doesn't have the record of experience McCain has in foreign policy/relations. That's a fact. But he exudes calm, confidence, and an even keel. Exactly what we need when we're all anxious.

Looking at how McCain and especially Palin are behaving right now, I think electing them would be a very, very big mistake.

I noticed that too! She followed him like a puppy while Michelle was out there holding her own confidently greeting and thanking people. The contrasts are so clear!

    Posted 3 years ago #
  38. I noticed that as well! Obama stuck around to talk to the people which was a great opportunity that McCain obviously squandered. Not acknowledging Michelle and saying "that one" is giving me a bit of a window into his personal beliefs.

I just love Michelle Obama, I really do. They are a classy family who genuinely like the American people, I think. I was very impressed.

The other thing I noticed about Cindy McCain, was that she held her hands behind her back. I saw that as her not wanting to shake anyone's hand-CREEPY!

I do think that Cindy's lack of desire to shake hands has to do with whatever ailed her awhile back (she was wearing a cast). That said, you would think McCain would have some sort of advisor on body language, etc. to look out for those miscues/perceptions. It did give off a bad vibe.

It looks like they are in cahoots in the "look you in the eye while I screw you over" club!

  45. And now they have Cindy McCain out there talking about how scary it is that Obama hangs out with terrorists. Geez!!

Character assassination is all the McCain campaign has left. It's both pitiful and disgraceful to watch.

I'm still not sure how sowing this kind of division is putting "country first". Haven't we had enough partisan politics? Hasn't the country been bitterly divided long enough?

    Posted 3 years ago #
  47. Oh, and the other thing Cindy McCain said - that Obama was "waging the dirtiest campaign in history". Give me a break!!!

Back just before McCain decided to run for President, he called us a Nation of Whiners!
And now "We're all in this together, My Friends"

Hard to cuddle up to his schmoozing when we are all scraping together money to live on, and he can't remember how many frickin' houses he has!!

    Posted 3 years ago #
  50. What about McCain's claim "I know how to get Osama Bin Laden" If that is true why hasn't he gotten him? What a shameful thing to say. Then on The Situation Room re emphasizing..."Look, I know the area, I've been there, I know wars, I know how to win wars, and I know how to improve our capabilities so that we will capture Osama bin Laden -- or put it this way, bring him to justice... We will do it, I know how to do it." If that is true why is holding out on us? Why hasn't he done it? What a load of cr*p.
