anyone paying attention to the upcoming mayoral race?
Mayoral Race - Seattle
haven't seen much to comment on yet.
I got an unsolicited email from Tim Burgess' camp yesterday, asking for money. How they thought that I was supporting anyone at this point is beyond me. It went into the virtual round file.
it would be nice to have an exceptional person (something fresh) step to the plate. what happen's to the seattle waterfront is an item that is likely to occur.
You know, it might actually be good to have the candidates making their pitch early. Politicians are never more attentive to voters than when they WANT something from us. And if we approach them now, before the rush is on, they might actually pay attention.
So lessee. Whose hats are in the ring so far?
♥ Tim Burgess
♥ Bruce Harrell
♥ Mike McGinn
♥ Peter Steinbrueck
♥ DBP's grandma
♥ DBP's goldfish
♥ Pigasus XXVII (great-great-great-great grandpiglet of the Original Pigasus)
I got the same email.
I am not sure what Tim Burgess thinks he has done to earn my money
it would be nice to have a visionary type person add their name to the ring
State senator Ed Murray has declared as well. Lesser knowns (and less qualified) in the race are Kate Martin, Charles Staadecker and a crazy dude named David ishi. Word on the street is that Sims is also gonna run.
JoB...I would have been much happier if they hadn't asked for money right off the bat. How about telling me your positions first, and letting me decide. So, until that happens, if I get another, I will report it as SPAM..simple enough. :)
Jan, OMG, best mayoral candidate website ever! :)
any word regarding ron sims yet?
Is Ron Sims back from DC?
If so, I don't know what his platform is these days. I do know that some years ago when he was on the City Council he supported a pet breeding ban that got a lot of support from local animal advocates. If he's still into it, I might still be into him...(depending, of course, on what else he's into).
idk whether ron is back from dc or not.
According to the SLOG poll, McGinn's ahead of the pack. Here's my proposed slogan for him:
Oh no! Not McGinn Again!
Someone's already written a campaign song:
There was an old man
named Mike McGinnagin
He had whiskers
on his chin-again
They fell out
and then grew in again.
Poor old Mike McGinnagin.
Not him again!
GR, what happened at the waterfront?
Ron came back from HUD over a year ago. I think he is a regent now for UW or Central - one of the big state schools - but I have heard he is "looking" for his next big thing.
I liked Ron but I think we need fresh new ideas in office. I desperately want a qualified tough lady to run. Not Sally or Sally though!
anonyme - the viaduct is supposed to come down in a few years after the tunnel is constructed.
a good lady would certainly be a change
the view from driving the northbound viaduct is spectacular. this view will be gone in a few years.
Actually, the view will still be there. You'll just have to pay to gain access to it.
dobro yes the view will had by the abutting property owners. are these property owners paying extra for the increased property values? anyone know?
in addition to likely higher property taxes due to access to waterfront, these properties will also all likely pay into an "improvement district" along the waterfront to help pay for the cost of these improvements/tunnel etc. i believe this local "tax" has always been a part of the conversation. the result will be very high end housing/office in waterfront buildings (tax has to be absorbed by someone!)
the local property owners also are the biggest beneficiaries also.
