We live near Camp Long and since yesterday have noticed planes seem to be flying way lower than normal. We woke up in the middle of the night to our house shaking because of them last night. Has anyone else noticed this? They were the worst last night, but we've really noticed them about every hour or so for the past 24 hours. I really hope we can get used to it or they change the flight patterns. Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks.

  2. I got another note about this a few hours ago.

There's something about flight noise on one of the Port of Seattle agendas I looked at recently. I'm putting an inquiry on the list for Monday, there's nobody who could look into it this weekend ...

Thanks so much! Glad we aren't the only ones who noticed. Hopefully we'll hear something about it within the next week or so. Or even better... it will go away.

Loud aircraft noise woke me up last night, too. Has been increasing lately, in volume and frequency. I'm in Arbor Heights.

They probably switched the flight path again. It seems to me that about a year ago people where commenting about airplane noise and someone spoke up about flight paths having been changed for a little while.

Welcome to the 21st century. I guess we'll all just have to get used to the noise.

  8. I heard it too. especially yesterday, right before 6 am and then at 6:48 am. I was going to try to find that link that someone posted here before to see what types of planes they were and where they came from (Cargo planes, passenger planes. assume they were coming from King county airport).
the link had the color coded flight paths and you can see the flight paths for a certain time of day

Not your imagination. Several nights I can't tell if they are landing or taking off. We live in Seaview. Is this 3rd Runway noise increase or Boeing Field cargo flights? This sounds like big rumble, cargo. It was after 9ish though.

    City life!

Or you could all move to the middle of nowhere... I'm sure we could find something to complain about like, the crickets.

I was just saying the other day how much I miss the Cicadas in NY, then I promptly punched myself.

  11. It happens, too, in the Admiral area from time to time, usually in inclement weather. I always just figured that affected the pattern, or somehow the noise was carried a bit louder because of fog, rain, etc. etc. It's gone after a few minutes, no big deal.

We live within minutes of Boeing Field, and 20 minutes away from a huge international airport...it's bound to happen...our airspace over WS is not private .

I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure that the cause is related to the proximity of SeaTac and Boeing Field, and changing winds. When the wind is blowing in the same direction at both airports (most of the time), there's not too much noise in West Seattle. When the wind is blowing in different directions at the two airports (doesn't happen often, or last very long), the patterns have to be adjusted, and Boeing Field traffic will bring more noise to West Seattle locations.

Not sure, but this may explain things.

  13. When you live out in the country, people complain about how far away everything is, how long it takes to drive to the grocery store, shopping mall is 3 hours away, etc. When you live in the city, people complain about the city noise. Can't have it both ways...

  14. I live in the Westwood Village area and the planes are loud
start late evening. Some times the noise is so intense that it seems to be an earthquake.
For those who said to just to get use to it… I, think that if they decide to accept all the unpleasant things that come to their life’s well, is that is their choice is ok with me.
But for those who we like to live comfortably and in a pleasant world we speak up and we are heard. We do not have to take it...
The technology has improve a lot this days and if we let authorities know our cancers or dislikes
They may do something about it.. Specially if we make a lot of “noise”

Wow. I think there are plenty of us who have lived in West Seattle for a long time and haven't had to deal with this type of "noise" on a regular basis. I have noticed it a lot lately. Obviously living in a city we will have noise, but come on... we shouldn't have to start worrying a plane is about to crash into our house or there is an earthquake. I don't think anyone is asking for the silence of the country or asking to "have it both ways".

For the obtuse: I chose to live in a city, I moved away from Beacon Hill and Sea Tac flight paths NOT to hear jet noise at great expense. I live in Seaview not far from beach. If I can hear jet noise, I know those who are farther East are really getting blasted. The airlines are required to fly in a certain manner to reduce noise. If you don't call them on it they do not adhere to program. I am trying to figure if this is 3rd runway noise or Boeing field noise. And I agree this is a recent occurrence. As in the last six months.
