Hi, I accidentally left my kindle in the shopping cart at safeway (Jefferson square) today about 2pm. I realized it almost immediately and turned around and went back but it was gone. Was anyone at the Jefferson square safeway around this time and find it? I left my name and number with the manager (dave) and even hung around for a while in case someone turned it in on their way out of the store. I am so bummed I have only had it about a week.

From Kindle website at http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_navbox_k2troublestolen_200375470?nodeId=200375470#stolen
First, deregister Kindle via the Manage Your Kindle page. Then, contact us so we can ensure the device has been deregistered from your account, and deactivate it so that it can't be registered by another user.
If your Kindle is found and we're contacted, we'll arrange for it to be returned to you. To file a police report, please contact your local police department.
You will also want to make sure that you cancel any active Kindle subscriptions on the Manage Your Kindle Subscriptions page. Canceling the subscription will ensure that you are no longer billed; you'll also receive a pro-rated refund for remaining issues you already paid for. You always have the option of subscribing at a later date.Posted 10 months ago # -
Thank You sacatosh. I have deregistered it but haven't contacted Amazon yet and will do that next. I hadn't gotten around to any subscriptions yet so I don't have to worry about that.

My kindle was returned. I got a phone call this morning from Safeway and they had my kindle. They say it was found in a cart outside. Wonder why it took them so long to call me? I can't believe that it was sitting in a cart from Friday to Sunday. Oh well its back that is all that counts.

If you don't have one, get a case. Even the cheap ones at amazon protect it from falls and purse/suitcase/briefcase debris. I have guided the return and replacement of several kindles for people who now have cases since amazon will usually cover damage once.... since they can repair and refurb to the next klutz down the line, but no one else can get repair parts yet. I have dropped mine once and had a dog drag it off a table once but the case protected it each time.

I love my lighted leather case for my Kindle. It's pricey, but has been completely worth it. "Used" versions can be had from Amazon for about $10 off new price (I think they're essentially new ones that were returned open.)
