We need to find a good home for a great, healthy, active but mellow 10 year old Dalmation-Lab mix named Ringo. If you live on 18th Ave or near SSCC, you may have seen me walking this beauty over the past 4 years. I've had this dog for 9 years, but our current living situation isn't working for him. Here's his ad on Dalmation Rescue of Puget Sound website.

    Happy to answer any questions.

  2. What a cool looking dog. I'd take him in a heartbeat, if I had more space with the pets I already have. Hope he finds a forever home soon.

My cats say no but that's the only thing stopping me. OK, the catlbob says, "No," too. He always sides with the cats.

as one of Ringo's neighbors offering an unsolicited and un-biased opinion...., Ringo is very well-behaved, trained, and has been cared for very well. I'll miss seeing him on his daily walks.

  5. girliehamer... Please let us know if you find a home for Ringo. A couple of us are talking about both Ringo and Roxie (on the WSB home page) to frinds and neighbors, trying to help with re-homing. Thanks...

Thanks so much everyone. This is a very difficult situation to be in. I've shared my life with Ringo for 9 years. I'll let you know what happens to him. I just read about Roxie. She's lovely and good with kids - which is the thing about Ringo that isn't working out for our family. I'd do a trade if we could!

  7. Have you tried training specifically for a integrating a baby into a house with a dog? I dont do it (because i have never had a child) but I have a highly qualified trainer friend who does. The program is called Diapers and Dogs and might help you at least manage in the meantime.

Your original post stated that the dog got along fine with the kids and that the reason you were getting rid of him was because he kept going over the fence. Why the switch? I'm sure that anyone interested in adopting this lovely dog will need to know.

  11. What anonyme said.

I think you owe it to your dog to work through any issues. If it's the fence, build a taller fence or supervise your dog outside. If it's the kids, work on some training and again, supervise your dog and kids. There's not a large market out there for elderly dogs, and by sugar coating any kid issues you're only setting the next family up for failure. If this dog has been so great over the last 9 years, don't you think you owe it to him to work things out?

Sorry to come across as harsh, but two people trying to get rid of their dogs in one day on the WSB, along with two more on my Facebook feed can make a rescuer like me start to see red after awhile. Everyone has an excuse. Everyone seems to think there are an abundance of homes out there. Well, there aren't. Do your dog a favor and work with whatever issue you're dealing with and don't add your dog to the 5 million who will die this year because there aren't enough homes.

  12. anonyme- I think you might be confusing the post with another dog? I don't recall reading anything about a fence, or any reasoning 'switch'.

Anonyme and ALS - There hasn't been a switch. I believe you are confusing this with another post. I've worked with this dog for years and have decided that as great and sweet as he is, he doesn't have it in him to be a little kid dog.

And thanks sam-c for your kind words about Ringo. He is indeed famous in the neighborhood.

You're absolutely correct: please accept my apology for the confusion. The situation was very similar to another post.

I do agree with ALS, however. It's next to impossible to rehome a senior dog, even a beautiful one. Many years ago an evil stepfather gave away my 8 year old collie, a gorgeous 'Lassie' lookalike. He was dead of a heart attack a week later. He literally died of a broken heart. I hope you look into other options and give Ringo another chance.
