   What is it with those damn license plate frames with Auto dealer names on them? I see them everywhere, and they are SOO tacky. Just bought a vehicle last week at Toyota of Bellevue, and it has a "Michael's Toyota" license plate frame both on the front and the rear. I'm taking it off immediately.

   I could see if you wanted to promote your college, or have something sassy to say about your grandchildren or honor roll student/child. But really, it's just free advertising/marketing for dealers, right? Would you carry a shoebox with a Nordstrom logo each time you wore your new pumps? Perhaps dangle a tag from your new eyeglasses with "Market Optical" on it?? Come on people!

   ...that's all I'm sayin'

   AReader - I have one on there b/c it came with the car...and I never thought to take it off. Of course, if WSB were to make up some license plate frames, I would gladly install it.

   AReader, I'm with you - we're in the market for a new car, and it'll be off in about 10 seconds after it gets into my driveway. :)

   Back in NY, I know somebody who did that (removed the dealer plate frame), and every time they took the car in for service, they put a new one back on!

   I've met people in far away places that noticed my license plate frame and they happen to be from the same town. Unusual conversation starter but why not? Mine has the town and dealer name on it, not just the dealer name. Most dealerships in New England actually put a sticker or metal script on your car when you buy it, now that's tacky.

   Mine has the town on it too and I like it. Its a more subtle way of showing pride in the place I'm from (and where I bought the car) than putting one of those lame three-letter circle stickers on the car.

   roundthesound- I just got a Boston VW plate frame, glad I avoided a metal script. My problem is that I can't get the state inspection sticker off the inside of the windshield!

   RS, we still have our NJ inspection sticker on our window. It's an interesting conversation starter. Although I'll admit it made them a bit suspicious at the Canadian border. :)

   RS, I love the mass registration, the sticker is supposed to fade after it expires, it took an extra year for mine to fade out. I got it off with a razor blade and some goo gone, NOT a fun process!

   p.s. use the citrus goo gone, it make your car smell nice :)

    Trick - Keep that thoght, I just spent about a year looking for a Smith Gandy Ford license plate frame for a car that I am restoring. Finally found one by chance in Port Townsend.

    My 20-year old Trooper had a dealer plate, but in Wisconsin they also stuck on a dealer-ID plaque on the rear part of the car and it is still hanging tough. I don't fault Zimbrick Motors for doing it, but it did seem to be a Midwestern car dealer trick that would ill-suit the locals. I've never had a license plate frame since, but if you are looking for a Zimbrick Motors plastic chrome plaque, feel free to take mine... ;-)

    Be glad it's a license frame that you can remove. How about the dealers name that is rivited to your car, and leaves holes when you remove it! That would void the sale for me.

    My dad always taught me to have THEM REMOVE IT at the dealership. Basically, I'm not advertising for you for FREE. LOL. Well, I always remove it when I get home. Instead I put on my Homeward Pet "Adopt a Cat or Dog" plates. You can also buy blank ones at any Auto Shop.

    I'm with RainyDay1235...any time I've gotten a car, I tell the salesperson to remove all the ad stuff they have on the car "unless you want to pay me to be a moving billboard for your dealership."

    LOL...I'm going to pick up my new car tomorrow and hopefully I'll remember to ask Chaplin's to take off their license plate frame now! I bought my old car in Kansas and the Honda dealer put a decal on the back that never budged after twelve years, but it never bothered me, like it does some people.
