LGBT West Seattle

  1. We are thinking of starting a social group for the LGBT community here in West Seattle. Anyone interested? Give us your ideas for get togethers, activities, etc.

We just don\'t ever hang out over at the clubs in Downtown Seattle and we really don\'t like attending any of the events over there. We\'ve always thought it would be nice to have a group of folks who could get together over here on this side of the bridge.

Just a thought... let us know what you think.

I didn\'t think he was serious :) Shibaguys, are potlucks still in the rule book or was that just 80\'s lesbians? And what about *friends of*? Are they invited?

    Posted 4 years ago #
  5. JanS - thanks for explaining to RonM.

JT - It\'s all good! We love a good potluck. \"Friends of\" are always good too. Just looking for an alternative to the \"scene\" over on \"the hill.\" We know there are LOTS of us over here because we see a lot of the people we knew from \"the hill\" over here now living in houses they just purchased. I\'m thinking LOTS of places for potlucks and cook outs!

as a new resident and someone who hasn\'t been to the hill scene at all, I\'d definteley be interested!

  7. We\'re in! Absolutely, 100% in.

    Posted 4 years ago #
  8. I love this blog....bringing people together one more time :)

I have some friends on the hill that I keep telling that West Seattle is the place to be now...one guy is the manager of an apt. bldg. there - and the building is ordinary, the neighborhood mediocre, and the rents astronomical. If you\'re gonna pay the high rent, I say live over here on this side of town...

Good luck and great idea! As a member of the \"friends of\" crew, I remember being disappointed that dunderp didn\'t get any response to a request here for an organized lesbian group (social I believe) in WS. I went back and looked, it was 4 months ago, so Pamela, if you\'re still out there, hope you might connect with Shibaguyz. And p.s. Shibaguyz, aren\'t ANY clubs downtown so last year anyway ;)

    Posted 4 years ago #
  10. Count me in! Would love a queer west seattle social group--summer cookouts or deck drinks or potlucks-- and then see what the interest is. PS-Shibaguyz-enjoy your blog & am totally interested in the intensive gardening! We are just in the early stages here at our place!

    Posted 3 years ago #
  11. Okay, it seems like there is at least enough interest for a gaggle of us to get together first then we can organize more from there. Next weekend is totally booked up for us but the following weekend we could all agree on a meeting place. Late Saturday afternoon/early evening works best for us. Suggestions?

    Posted 3 years ago #
  12. I could do late saturday afternoon--after 430 (i\'m working that day). Coffee? Or ?

    Posted 3 years ago #
  13. Shibaguyz, This is West Seattlewood ! Sounds like a great idea, we\'ll watch for more information.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  14. I\'m all for this!! My partner and I just moved to WS and love it. I know there are quit a few of us in the area.
I think maybe we should meet in some restaurant first to plan our follow up events.
    I\'m very excited about it!!!

Maybe we could get togther for a potluck picnic at Lincoln Park!

    Posted 3 years ago #
  16. So perhaps saturday june 7th...maybe around 530pm? Lladro? Or C&P (can get coffee or wine/beer there)? Or any other suggestions?

    Posted 3 years ago #
  17. That Saturday is a little up in the air for me right now. We have a coach in from out of town that day in our studio so I\'m not sure what time I\'ll be able to get away.

We love C&P and have been trying to find an excuse to hang out there more often. We\'d definitely vote for there.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  18. Anyone else interested want to chime in on time/thoughts/etc? Shibaguyz- since this was your idea, would another day/time work better? Or do you want to leave it till closer that day?

We\'re interested... and I\'ll keep checking here to see what people come up with, but count us in :)

    Posted 3 years ago #
  20. Sounds great...We\'ll check back to see what the verdict is.

A late afternoon, early evening potluck sounds good but the other ideas would work just as well.

Thanks Shibaguyz for kicking off the idea!

I\'m not familiar with \"C&P\" (can you spell it out?) but we would definitely show up wherever.

    C&P Coffeehouse, 5446 California Ave.
Count me in if it is after 6:00 p.m.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  23. So, saturday the 7th? Or the 14th? Any votes? thoughts?
I would vote for this Sunday the 9th or Saturday the 14th.
And C&P would be my top choice.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  24. This Saturday the 7th works for us!!

    Posted 3 years ago #
  25. In an unfortunate twist of circumstances, I am working until around 6pm or so on Saturday. Sunday is a full day for us as well just catching up on all the work in the garden that we have had to put off this past week and a half.

Sounds like there are plenty of you all who can make it though so you should definitely get together and we\'ll work out the next gathering.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  26. I will most likely be unable to attend on saturday as well. However, if people do meet--could you post when/where? Also maybe repost on anything that gets set up for future? Or if there is not enough people available for this weekend we could pick another time. Whatever works best for the most people.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  27. The other option is Satuday the 14th. That gives everybody a chance to make plans for it.
C&P Coffe House okay @ 6pm or so??

    Posted 3 years ago #
  28. Saturday the 14th there\'s another WSB happy hour being planned at Beveridge Place Pub!! There are two big rooms there so we could do one gathering in each room and those of us that play for both teams could hang out in the middle!! :)

    Posted 3 years ago #
  29. I vote the 14th at C&P....then head over after to beveridge pub. anyone else?

    Posted 3 years ago #
  30. I\'m working Saturday the 14th until 5pm over on the Eastside for this particular event. DANG IT!! I don\'t usually work weekends at all!! This just happens to be a few gigs we have that all fall on Saturdays right in a row.

Sunday afternoons (not this Sunday) after we finish up our market day are perfect for us. We could definitely meet up then.

So, our two options are something around 6 or 6:30 at C&P on the 14th or Sunday afternoon the 15th.

I think it would be great if we did the get together ALL together.... what a great way to meet everybody!!!!

    Posted 3 years ago #
  32. I am up for either of shibaguyz suggested times--sat14th or sun15th at C&P. (I like the pub idea, but we will be bringing our baby...)

    Posted 3 years ago #
  33. I like the idea of Sunday afternoon. So Sunday the 15th at around 2 or 3 pm??

    Posted 3 years ago #
  34. sounds great! how about 3pm?

Mmmm yum C &P Italian sodas sound great. Can I come too?

    Posted 3 years ago #
  38. Sunday the 15th at 3pm at C&P Coffee Co. it is then! Chime in here if you can make it. Again, this is a meet up for the LGBT community here in West Seattle. Being that this is Pride Month, we thought it appropriate we should all meet up for the first time now.

I\'m totally open to LGBT & Friends but please understand what we are trying to create here is not a general meeting of folks but a specific group of people in the LGBT (& Friends) community here in West Seattle. So, come one, come all... I just want it clear what the main idea of this meet up is. :)

Weigh in here if you will be able to attend and this will be the first, official meeting of the WS LGBT (& Friends) Community!! WOOHOO!!

    Posted 3 years ago #
  39. Count us in! And thanks for the clarification! We love & need our allies...and we also need \'our people\' to a build local community. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

    Posted 3 years ago #
  40. Shibaguyz...thanks for the clarification...I think there were some people who weren\'t getting it. I\'m just a friend, and we will be having an open thing for everyone on the 14th...so I think both groups can win.It\'s commendable that you want to do this, esp. in Pride month. Is it true there won\'t be a parade this year? at least not on the hill? just a downtown thing? A friend of mine on the hill won\'t consider living in WS, and I keep telling him that this is the area to be in, that the LGBT community is growing...yet..he won\'t budge...his loss :)

Thanks to S-guyz and JanS for the clarifications:

General meetup for everyone focused on pretty much anything :-) -- Saturday the 14th -- BPP

LGBT meetup, focused on LGBT community-building (friends welcome) -- Sunday the 15th

Sounds like there are many friends of LGBTs here, available for weddings, bar mitzvahs, possibly dog and kid sitting, so when you-all make a google group or mailing list, maybe you can have a version for LGBT&F where you tell us what to do (make dresses for the prom, daubers for the bingo...) and we can volunteer. I, personally, would be up for a PDA-kissathon at Safeco during an M\'s game, but that\'s just me.

I guess what I\'m trying to say without saying it is maybe the LGBT community would like to get together for the first time without the usual gaggle of earnest liberals, like myself, no matter how friendly we are???? Which seems quite reasonable to me --

When Aim and JT and I finally get together for our \"unfit people saunter\" walks, I\'m really not crazy about being joined by svelte joggers for the first couple of sessions. :-)

If I misunderstood or stuck my foot in my mouth, lemme know. It certainly won\'t be the first time.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  42. hey...I get to be in the \"unfit people saunter\", too... lol....

I dunno, Jan, we\'re pretty picky :-) You may be entirely too fit. We have auditions. We have standards. Since this saunter seems to depend on my being able to walk further than 10 feet, it may be a few more weeks. But it will be soon.

Charla, when you organize the kiss-a-thon I must be there. I think I would pay to see you participate in civil disobedience in this case.

Hey, maybe we could turn it into a fundraiser :-)

I am SOOO furious about the Mariner\'s usher\'s attack on same-sex-smooches. And basically I\'m one of those prudes who isn\'t sure anyone should go around sucking face in public. But, dammit, if anyone can, everyone should. Often!

Imagine, at the street fair, a kissing booth with people of the appropriate sex available for everyone? That\'s even better than waterboarding, \'er, dunking House!

I\'m even more furious that some people seem to think the usher\'s reaction was reasonable and that two women (or men) kissing is something untoward they have to \"explain to their kids.\" I just go along thinking the world is sane and then, ZAP, along comes reality.

If you don\'t know what we\'re talking about, google Seattle Mariners+lesbian. All will be revealed.

Charla, I can\'t even get started on that topic. Infuriating.

  47. Charla -
I was clueless (what\'s new?) as to what you were talking about till I went to the seattletimes homepage just now and saw the article. Parents projecting their insecurities onto their kids, things never change.
Perhaps you and House can man/woman the kissing booth?

Erik, I\'m glad I put in the search -- Like JT, I can\'t even think about it (though I obviously just did.) House and I won\'t be personing any booth of any kind together anytime soon (or late). Speaking on behalf of myself, ain\'t gonna happen :-)

I feel kind of bad that I mentioned the Mariners in this thread -- just wanted to say some friends will be there when there\'s work to be done; and won\'t necessarily be there for the initial meet and greets.

I always wanted to go in Buppy\'s for brunch because it was so dark and mysterious from the outside. By the time I found out a straight couple wouldn\'t have been out of place, they were gone. :-(

  49. Sooooo!! After all this airing OUT!!
We are meeting on Sunday 15th at C&P at 3:00pm correct?
By the way us gay men would like to also have a smooching time at a Mariners game and see what happens!!!! ;-)
Maybe we could walk on the parade. My partner and I have done it before and it was fun!!

Smooch away, angelr -- friends (and troublemakers) will support you. (At this point about the only thing that would get me to an M\'s game is a good old fashioned social protest.) I sent a letter to the editor of the PI saying I thought they should be grateful for anyone who bought tickets and should just shut up about whether they kissed or threw vegetables. Oddly, they didn\'t print it. :-)
