Sat. always attracts a lot of people from all walks of life. Two weeks ago I saw a 70 something woman with a cane sitting in the middle of 4th ave. with the young people! Families with small children, retirees, middle class working baby boomers. Come down and see what it's all about. There will be a march at 2PM and a mock funeral for "Corporate Greed" at 4PM. There are a lot of police and they have told me, the crowd is typically pretty mellow.

Excellent idea, csw. Here's the rest of the schedule for the day, in case anyone is interested in Working Group meetings or discussions:

  4. They are now at Seattle Central Community College, BTW, moved late today. I happened to be passing through Capitol Hill as they arrived.

Yeah, I'd be curious to hear the totals. It seemed like there were about 1,000 people today?

  7. smitty...

    your dismissal does you disservice.
    This is not reality tv
    it's reality
    reality is measured by content..
    not media coverage

  8. JoB, those who don't get it will never get it. They don't see where there's a problem. In their little world, I'm betting that they are "comfortable", so why would anyone else have a problem? When they can't add something to the equation, they demean...guess it's good for their soul..just not for real life..

  9. I just think they should all go home and clean their rooms. Their parents would appreciate it.

Better yet, occupy DC. Where is the outrage at the political class? Or does that not fit their agenda?

  10. wow//what a skewed view you have. It's not just kids with nothing better to do with their time. I'm 64, and if I was physically able , I would be there, too. And I know others my age who are heavily involved. And many employed people, who go and support when they're not working. They are occupying DC, if you pay attention to the news. This is a countrywide phenom, and I doubt that you will see it disappear soon. My parents wouldn't care if I was there or not - lololol...they are Republican, conservative in many of their views, they are 86 and 87 respectively, and are seeing their few benefits cut to the bone. They understand, they don't have answers, they are hurting, and are part of the 99%.They are seeing what they supported by being Republican trashed by the neo-cons...so don't hand me this "go home and clean their rooms" crap !

I need to ask..what world do you live in? Wow...just - wow ...

Smitty: Glad to have you joining the dialog.
There actually is an Occupy DC, along with hundreds of other Occupy groups. You're dead on right with how important that is. A main theme of the movement has been trying to figure out how to effectively remove the influence of money from politics. And that applies to all politics, rather than just liberal or conservative.

I'd say the average age on the demonstrators is probably about 38-40 on weekends and maybe 30-32 during the week.

You should go check it out. I think you'd dig it.

FYI, I am 52, working full time, have worked and paid taxes since I was 14, 770 FICA, own a mortgage.

This movement is here for the long run. I go down to Westlake Park every Sat. and some Sundays. I am there because I want/need change in our political system. The thing about Wall St is, they are in bed with the politicans, so it make since that the protest started on Wall St., believe me, that in no way means DC is off the hook, they are equals in my opinion.

I don't agree with everyone protesting, but in general, we want political change, financial reorganization, and jobs. I know two people who have lost their homes to forclosure because of job loss, and two others trying to get loan mods. If you have not gone through either of these things, they are stressful. The loan mod process is a disorganized nightmare.

Come down to Westlake on any Sat. and see what is going on. You will see people from all walks of life, and ages. We are changing our world!!
