I am thinking of surprising my Mom with a trip to Las Vegas and was wondering where to stay? I am looking at hotel prices and can't decide. What are some recommendations. Oh and it should be Chupabra friendly. LOL

My boyfriend and I stayed at Mandalay Bay in May and it was fabulous. The pool area is the best in town: wave pool with sandy beach, lazy river and 4 smaller lagoon pools. Plus, you don't have to tromp all the way across the casino from the elevators to the pool, easy access! Choopies may only smoke while at the Black Jack tables.

Belagio was great. Much more relaxed and "peaceful" than the party atmospheres you'd find at Hard Rock, Palms, etc. Pool wasn't too crowded, good service.

  4. The Mirage has an amazing pool area and the most comfortable hotel beds I've ever slept in. It's pretty centrally located too.

I am a Vegas regular, and my suggestions would be based on what you are seeking -- note that I do not like the old Vegas hotels, and prefer the strip. These are also my experiences, and note that I am a paying customer and not a high roller that gets comp'ed:
    - best spa: Luxor and Mirage
    - best pool: Mandalay Bay
    - best gambling: Mirage (I dont go to Vegas to gamble, but one time when i did win I won relatively big at Mirage on slots and understand their odds are slightly better than elsewhere (but dont know if that is really true)
    - best rooms: Mandalay and Mirage
    - best meal: Red at Mandalay Bay (they had a chicken leg appetizer that was the very best food that I have EVER eaten and they made fantastic martini's)
    - best general show: Rio (not in the strip -- but they also do a Mardi gras every night and when I was there you can ask to be in it - so we did)
    - best specialty show: depends who in town
    - worst smoking: Wynn
    - worst meal: Thanksgiving at Wynn
    - worst room: MGM and Treasure Island
    - nice all around: Venetian, Bellagio
    - most sedate (quiet): Monte Carlo
    - worst boozers: New York/New York

If you go during the mid-week you can get incredible rates as long as Comdex or some other large convention is not in town at the same time. My last trip I got a room with a jacuzzi at Mandalay for $69 per nite that went to over $200 on weekend. You can also check Alaska Airlines as sometimes they have pretty good vacation packages.
    Have fun.
