I'm interested to hear how the 2011/2012 kindergarteners are getting on at their new schools, and what parents' impressions have been so far. My child starts kindergarten next year and we are trying to decide whether to stick with our local school or apply for Pathfinder or the dual language program at Concord.

  2. I would also like to get some comments about the schools. At the moment we live in High Point, so West Seattle is our neighborhood school. Unfortunately, I am not feeling too great about sending my child there at the moment and would consider an option school or moving if need be.

Our neighborhood is Arbor Heights and our son is in kindergarten and Pathfinder. So far, I find it to be a great school. Both K teachers are excellent and the other staff seems pretty amazing as well. Definitely tour the alternative schools you are interested in so you can get a feel for them. We knew immediately that Pathfinder was the right fit for our family and feel very fortunate that we got in.

Pathfinder doesn't have a dual language program, but all students attend Chinese classes starting in kindergarten.

  6. We were so thankful to get our kindergartner in to Pathfinder this year for so many reasons, one of which is it is the only school we could walk to. Our reference school is Lafayette. I knew when we toured that Pathfinder was the right fit for us. It didn't feel like we would have been as happy at Lafayette.

We love Pathfinder. My daughter got an amazing teacher and we all just adore her. The kids have the same teacher for K and 1st, as well, so next year the teachers who are currently teaching 1st grade will go back to teaching K.

  7. I can't speak totally for the Kindergarten experience currently (as my daughter is in 5th now) but we have been at Gatewood all the way through and have been incredibly happy there. I feel like she has been well supported, as well as challenged in her education and development throught her time there. I have loved the faculty, principal, and the parents there. I will miss it a great deal as we move on to our next step this Fall. Maybe someone with more recent Kindergarten experience than I can speak to it. Our time at Gatewood has been wonderful.

A quick note - we tried for Pathfinder for our K kid this year and were 8th on the list. We didn't move at all. I am not sure if ANY kids got in off the list so it's a wild card to count on it as an "option: school. That said, we are at Gatewood and are really happy with our teacher, the school, the programs available, and the community. It's been a great transition for our kidlet and I hope that things don't shift around and land our other 2 kids in different schools.

  9. I have a son at Pathfinder and we like it there alot. He's not in kindy and didn't go there for kindy though. My daughter does not go to Pathfinder, but another WS school. I have friends who go to Gatewood and they just love it. Also, I agree with the poster about the waitlist at Pathfinder not moving. Several friends of mine had their children on the waitlist and it did not move at all. One was #1 on the waitlist for 1st grade and no movement.

This is our 1st experience with SPS as a parent of a Kindergartener. I have been impressed with Lafayette. I've been in the classroom a few times and saw no issues. Great communication with the teacher. No issues.

We have a nice, remodeled 3 bedroom home in the Belvidere area which falls into the Lafayette district. It's going on the market tomorrow. If you know anyone that wants to move to the Lafayette district, let me know! Lafayette gets GREAT reviews from people who send their kids there :)
