I love the West Seattle Street Fair and have lots of great things to say about it but this particular topic is about the Children's area this year.
    It's APPAULING.
It has been stuffed into an alley next to the busiest road surrounding the fair with no thought given to the social aspect for the families. There is no shade and no bathroom.
And what's worse is that the former family area was relocated to facilitate the beer garden!
Sorry-but I am very disapointed by the planning this year on this aspect.
And the kids activity tent should be provided free of charge to the wonderful organizations that donate their time and material and are not selling anything!
And yes I did fill out the questionarie at the fair but there was no place for free comments.
Anyone else have thoughts on this they would like to share? I am sure they will be read and taken into consideration for next year.

  2. we took my niece there on Friday, and it looked like everyone employed by 'Clowns Unlimited' was on work release from juvenile hall. Not to mention the young workers that were loudly talking about their sexual exploits within earshot of the kids, and the "lady" running the one of the bouncy houses YELLING at the kids. Awesome. Clowns Unlimited = carnies in training.

  3. I agree. All of the bounce-houses were crammed together next to a stinky-alley and busy-street. It was difficult for parents to watch their kids while inside the rides b/c everyone was standing on top of each other. The teens running the rides also kept letting older kids cut in front of little kids. We usually get a full day pass but this year we only bought a couple of tickets. it was a total bummer.

  4. Please send your feedback to the Junction Association (and if they want it a different way, I will find out from Susan tomorrow):

  5. Did you notice that the nuns booth was situated right next to the beer garden and stage. I found the juxtaposition amusing but felt sorry for the poor nuns.

We were at the kids' area on Friday. It was poorly set up. No place for the kids to queue up for their turns, no shade, parents having to try to get strollers over or around the cement barriers and huge cords.

I didn't have any bad experiences with the staff there, through it was first day and not yet crowded.

Best booth positioning IMHO: Forrest Lawn next to the burlesque-wear booth.

I wish the street fair had more fair type things, like the current kids areas, food etc.. and LESS political candiates, time share companies, etc.

We had a great time, but avoided the bounce house area since it seemed kind of sketchy. Loved the curious kidstuff tent with the T's, Facepaint and cookies with the Pathfinder volunteers. Most of the booths were great. Although I could do without the timeshare booth luring the kids in with an Elmo wheel and candy, but not giving them candy without the parent signing up for their giveaway and not disclosing that they were collecting names when asked. Other than that nice work to everyone who put it together. We had a great time.
