We the people - I believe for the most part it was donors consisting of business and 'real' people.

it was donors of local businesses and residents -including Starbucks and Microsoft. I am so proud to live in a city where when Chase stepped out our local people stepped up.

I've lived in Seattle my whole life and West Seattle for the past 4 years and have never been to the Hamilton Viewpoint before today. I can't believe I've never heard of it before. It's gorgeous up there!
.
One question though...Is it a complete waste of time to go up there with a group of 10 or more. In other words, does the park get packed every year for the show. Is it like another Gasworks Park scene?Posted 1 year ago # -
In the past when I have gone to Hamilton the problem hasn't been with the crowd at the park. It is the people in vehicles that drive in at the last minute, leave their engines running and their headlights on, and get into a shouting match with the people that have their views blocked.

It does get quite the crowd...and you may have to park a few blocks away and walk down. In years past it was a great view of the Myrtle Edwards fireworks. They no longer do those, and the Lake Union ones can be seen but are much farther away.
I've heard that they try to make the Lake Union ones a bit higher now for better visibility. Maybe someone who went last year can chime in as to visibility and crowd.

I have had the same experience as Gina including people drinking alcohol in a tent near me and the police looking the other way. I left early that year and could not find a policeman to tell about the impending fight. So I told a fireman on the firetruck and he said he would pass it on. I have not gone back to Hamilton Viewpoint for the 4th since as I feared by the anger level of a very large crowd(due to the late arrivals pulling up climbing out their sunroofs and blocking the views of people who had waited hours to have a good view) that gunfire could erupt.

Sponsors for the Family 4th include - among dozens of others - us and two other West Seattle-linked businesses, both of which also happen to be WSB sponsors, Ventana Construction and Merrill Gardens. No other West Seattle participants in the donation drive that we know about but honorable mention to our friends at Next Door Media for donating too - they run My Ballard, Fremont Universe, Queen Anne View, My Wallingford, Magnolia Voice, and a few other neighborhood news websites.
