Looks like he intentionally blew his two son's up in a suicide.
A case worker had just dropped off Powell's sons at the home Sunday afternoon for a supervised visit, the source said. Powell then shut the door on the caseworker and locked it.

Horrible!
wow..just wow..speechless.
So sad...the entire story :( I heard this on the radio a couple hours ago and it made me sick to my stomach.
I can not imagine having so much hate in your heart to cause your children harm or death, there is a very special place in hell for Josh Powell. May he be tormented for eternity. I pray for the kids and their grandparents and the hurt they must be feeling. I never imagined it would end this way. I have always felt Josh Powells dad sexually assaulted Susan and then she was killed. I also was holding out hope that Susan's would gain full custody of the boys and Josh would rot in prison and after his death rot in hell.
And on Superbowl Sunday-the biggest day of the year for domestic violence. So sad.
And there's a special place in Heaven for the children as well, with thier mother there to receive them.
May the family soon find peace.
Prayers as well for the social worker who was forced to watch as the children were killed. That poor worker is going to have a long, long recovery.
And a MAJOR BOO-HISS to the judge who allowed home-based supervised visitation. With a case like this, any visitation should be held in a visitation center where the environment is controlled. I'd like to know who the judge was on the case so we can work to vote him/her out next round.
My heart breaks for everyone involved, but mostly for those who have to find a way to survive and continue on.
"Asked why Josh Powell was allowed visitation despite being a person of interest in Susan Powell's disappearance, Hill told The Associated Press there had been no indication that the children were in any danger.
"Powell had custody of the boys for nearly two years after his wife's disappearance, and it was only because his father — with whom he and the boys lived — was arrested that they were taken out of the home."
....
"Susan Powell's parents aren't critical of how the custody case was handled, their attorney, Steve Downing, told The Associated Press. "They knew that legally he would probably have supervised visitation," he said. "It was their belief he had something to do with Susan's disappearance, and that ultimately he could harm the children. But they believed the state had listened to them and had taken appropriate measures.""

So,so sad....my niece worked with the grandparents for the last year, trying to do what was right for the children. She is heartbroken!
He took a hatchet to his kids before blowing up the place??? Sick. Just sick.
I Wonder...I just read the KOMO news report...what an evil man..
The latest news about the hatchet is just disgusting. I just happened to be looking at KOMO's website and saw that detail which I could have lived without ever hearing. I just can't imagine the horror those little boys went through. I hope that all parties involved may find peace eventually. So, so sad.
