Silent Auction & Happy Hour for Jan Seeley

    Time:
    Sunday, November 6 · 2:00pm - 5:00pm
    Location:
Feedback Lounge (6451 California Ave SW)

Jan Seeley (or as you may know her on the WSB forums JanS), was diagnosed with fibrillary glomerulonephritis, a rare form of kidney disease, last year.

After months of rigorous testing, she was approved and added to a kidney transplant list. She is now on dialysis, which she goes to three times a week.

JanS is no stranger to struggle and health problems. 15 years ago she spent some months in a hospital after a very severe case of pancreatitis and many complications of the illness. Since then she has undergone many surgeries related to that illness, has had two hip replacement surgeries and was diagnosed with breast cancer 6 years ago. She had a half mastectomy, rigorous chemotherapy causing her to lose all her hair and many surgery complications resulting in more surgeries. If all this wasn’t enough, a few years ago she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. She has been amazingly strong through all of this, always kind and generous with others and with a positive attitude. She has continued to try and work to support herself through everything, but it is beginning to take its toll. The diagnosis of kidney disease really came as a big blow last year.

Because she is self-employed, she does not have the benefit of receiving any sick pay when she can’t work, or taking time off for medical procedures and surgeries. With the kidney disease and the dialysis she isn’t able to work nearly as much as she used to. It has been a huge struggle, for sure. She has sometimes had to rely on the kindness of friends in the community for help, especially with rides to the doctor and occasionally dialysis.

Her friends and family have decided to have a benefit to help raise money to help her with rent and bills. This is where you come in! There will be a silent auction at Feedback Lounge on November 6th and we are collecting donations from our great community. We already have some awesome items in the works, including gift certificates to local businesses, gift baskets and local art, but we would love as much as we can get. If you own a business, provide a service or just own something of value that you would like to donate, please contact Jess at jess.diamant@gmail.com and we can coordinate the donation with you.

Benefit is on November 6th, 2pm at the Feedback Lounge. There will be an auction, on-site chair massage and a special drink and appetizer with proceeds going to the fund for JanS. We hope to see you there!"

This is an abbreviated version of another post. It was originally posted by Jan's daughter but some folks thought the title needed more ooomph. I'm just trying to help and hopefully I didn't alter the intent of the original message too much. 2 Much Whine

  2. 2MW...thank you..I don't know how to change the title on the other thread, so this works :) My feeble, not very computer savvy brain will figure it out, I'm sure...or maybe TR will help me change it :)

  3. Looks like TR did something even better for visibility :)

For anyone that may have missed it in the Front Page post, she also needs, ya know, a kidney. Blood types O or B are acceptable (if thats even the right word).

    Posted 7 months ago #
  24. yes...Leo is a purebred Abyssinian...found abandoned a little over 2 years ago in Burien, skinny, declawed..tossed out on the curb it seems...so now he's mine, drool and all :)

    Posted 7 months ago #
  26. Hey, I asked your lovely daughter for a pic. She told me that was her fave. But if you have something you prefer for a run closer to showtime, please send! I was too lazy to see if there was something already in our file from one of the forum events sixty-zillion years ago... TR

    Posted 7 months ago #
  27. This event is coming along nicely. Please be sure to put it on your calendar. So many kind business owners and individuals have donated some really great items to be auctioned off. There will be something for just about everyone and all monies go to help Jan. I think you get an extra hour that weekend, so why not use it to come out and help? Also, if you are interested in donating, the email address is jess.diamant@gmail.com.

  49. What? No kidney sales?
    Damn! Now you tell me!

(After I went and maxed out my credit cards.)

    Well how's about this then . . .

Turns out there are 5 parts of your bod you CAN legally sell. Or rent out anyway. And all whilst you're still among the living.

Can you guess what they are?

    Any body?
