Congratulations on electing Barak Obama President of the United States. I am disappointed that John McCain lost, but I am still optimistic for our great nation.
Look at how people are reacting on TV and on this blog. You do not sound like people that just elected a President. You sound and look like people at a religious event that have just been healed by God.
Let's move forward and address the issues at hand and get some explanation as to how President-elect Obama is to lead our nation.

I wonder at which Goodwill they are going to drop off Palin's clothes; I could use a couple work suits.
This is a great day. It's very moving to see the power of our collective voices, and remember again the promise of America.
I was surprised to see that Washington seems to be the most conservative of the liberal Western states (as of 9:16 pm), but thankful to have a real leader for president, finally.

Jeez House, next you will be describing the view from your colon.
I guess it could be worse. Your brethren over at Free Republic are buying ammo and ordering new robes and pointy hats.
Your President was a high functioning moron and your VP choice could not even climb that low bar with a ladder and a jetpack.
We chose a President with a three digit IQ, so you whine and accuse us of acting like the faith healers and name it and claim it gospel freaks that infest the republican party, and you still want some here to treat you like a rational human being?
I would put you on ignore but you're becoming more entertaining. Kinda like watching chimpanzees at the zoo hurl feces.

CONGRATS DEMS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have fun and be safe in your celebrations!!! : )

TheHouse Said: ""Look at how people are reacting on TV and on this blog. You do not sound like people that just elected a President. You sound and look like people at a religious event that have just been healed by God.""
I was impressed at how eloquently John McCain bowed out of the race this evening. I thought his concession speech was heartfelt and genuine. McCain was truly a victim of his own party throughout his whole campaign.
That being said, it's too bad other Republicans can't accept their new President with as much grace as McCain did this night.

It is too bad...but I think we all expect a comment like that from TheHouse.
Posted 3 years ago # -
oooh, this *almost* makes me want to take Haus off 'ignore'...but I much prefer to imagine him stomping his little foot into the floor in a snit.
Posted 3 years ago # -
That's a funny thought Jen. I kinda giggle actually thinking of what he said and that image.

I don't get it TheHouse. We weren't mean spirited to you. HunterG started the thread in celebration. We could have all said some mean and nasty things to you but not one person has. I cried today because I am happy and believe in democracy. I cried because I believe he will help put America on the right track. But of course you have to put us down saying we sound and act like we have been healed. I had hoped that we could all act like adults here but it seems I aimed a little too high.

and also what exactly are people who just elected a president supposed to sound like?????

THere is a great pictorial of headlines from around the world here: http://www.americablog.com/

The State of Hawai'i had the biggest margin of victory of all states 75%-25% in favor of Hawai'i's native son Barack Obama who was born and raised in Hawai'i.

I'm 61, and have never seen this kind of celebration when a president was elected. Perhaps The Haus has more knowledge than millions of people as to the wisdom of the outcome of this election, but it's done, and I doubt that he does. Yes, how should we be celebrating? Should we be unemotional? "Adultlike"? Not show the happiness for this historical event? Whether you agree with Barack Obama or not, history was made on Nov. 04.2008. As I watched it unfold this evneing I tried to imagine the reaction of people if John McCain had, by some slim chance, been elected President. Somehow I get the feeling that there wouldn't have been much dancing in the streets, that many people would have gone to bed much earlier on Tuesday evening ;-) But, hey, what do I know? Besides that the right choice was made :)

I think more than those of us who helped elected him are feeling a bit healed as well! NR, thanks for the congrats...

And House, you're just meanspirited. You might want to relisten to your candidates concession speech - You may learn a little something....
If that McCain ran against Obama the race may have been closer.
What a great, great day for the World....

Ok, Team WSB. I was not looking to pick a fight with my comment above. If you re-read, comment #11, I congratulated all of you (before NR did) and I also stated that I am optimistic.
My observation of how people are reacting cannot be denied.
Several of you have this self-fulfilling prophecy when it comes to my comments. You instantly think everything I say is mean spirited, but this is my observation (especially since many of you trounce on the religious right).
I think it is great to be excited about a candidate, but even when Ronald Regan won EVERY state in the country with the exception of MN, DA and DC people didn't react this way.
My last question for you to ponder is that if we're all supposed to not judge people based on race, then why is this a historic election?
Someone (such as me) that truly removed race from this election is sitting here waiting to hear how Obama is going to lead us.
Posted 3 years ago # -
TheHouse: You congratulated, and then mocked us. How is that not rude? Allow us one day of jubilation for chrissakes. This is along fought hard battle (for both sides), and we Dems are elated after 8 years of neglect. Human beings have emotions.
And yes, the change has been IMMEDIATE. Do you see how the rest of the WORLD is reacting right now? They see us differently now, for the BETTER! That is HUGE and cannot be underestimated. We will ALL get down to the tasks at hand soon enough.

I just re-registered (against my better judgment) to say, House:
If you don't understand how historic and startling it is that the greatest statesman and orator of my generation was just elected president, and that that person happens to be African-American, and that millions of people around the WORLD have been touched my him in ways they didn't know they could be touched, and that people stood in line for ten hours to vote for him--sometimes leaving hospital beds and their jobs to do so--and that a skinny intellectual guy with a funny name--a child of divorce, a child of many colors, a Generation Xer through and through--just changed the world....
If you don't understand this, then you are too cynical and shallow to understand the United States, the greatest country in the world.
And about God: yeah, I think He did have something to do with it. But in ways I suspect you will never understand. Ever hear of hope outshining fear, of people's best sides eclipsing their dark sides?
I didn't think so.
Posted 3 years ago # -
Kayleigh2...
i for one am glad to see you back.
"Ever hear of hope outshining fear"
that is the cause for jubilation in a nutshell.
and it is highly unlikely those who bought the socialist/terrorist crap are going to get it for a while.
To them. it's all about winning at any cost.
To those who are celebrating it is about the opportunity to change the way America views itself... and how it relates to the world.
TheHouse...
there was this kind of jubilation when Kennedy won.

I personally think NewResident deserves more attention for the comment he/she posted, #14, as opposed to focusing on what House wrote.

You are correct, that was a very nice message NR. Thank you.
A friend of mine has been working the polling stations in Brooklyn and spent last night walking - literally arm in arm - with people of every age and race up and down the streets.
America is not a melting pot - that infers we all blend together into one. Let's rejoice in our unique backgrounds and differences, and still find ways to work together for the common good. Hallelujah!

RainyDay - it's called the "salad bowl" theory of American instead of "melting pot" - it basically is an analogy that you can toss the salad together, but still recognize and appreciate the individual ingredients!
It is a new day out there - and the sun is shining in agreement:)

This is nothing big, but I thought that I would share it with you all.
One of our best friends (a Republican) who lives in Chicago went to a conference about 6 years ago and actually sat through a speech (maybe lecture) given by Obama. This was back before anyone really knew who Obama was.
Our friend left that conference that day and told us... "I heard a speech from a guy named Barrack Obama and he is going to be the next President of the United States."
Pretty incredible guy, Obama. Congrats again, guys! : )

That story gave me goose bumps. :) That is awesome!

Today I am filled with hope and optimism. I've cried happy tears more often than I can count!
Posted 3 years ago # -
Now let's claim with pride and our heads held high his entire name without any hint of shame or scandal.
Let's hear it for PRESIDENT BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA!!
You go guy!!

rainyday, that was beautiful!

A very proud day, and an historic decisive win!
I can now think back fondly to the days when we had to argue that super people shouldn't step in and remove him as a candidate because he "can't win a general", because he won't do well in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Florida? Anyone remember those days? How about 364 electoral votes and New Hampshire, Iowa, Florida, Ohio, Indiana, Vriginia, North Carolina, New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada all flipping red to blue! Know hope.

Aw... thanks NR! That was gracious of you :) I stayed safe... but not sober ;-)
