ISO - Wood Chipper for small project

  1. Hello West Seattle,

I just trimmed a few trees and instead of taking the debris to the transfer station, I want to run them through a chipper and use as compost for the yard. Unfortunately, I do not have a wood chipper and Home Depot does not rent them out. If anyone in the West Seattle universe does have one and would be willing to rent it out to me, I would be very grateful. I am in the Seaview Neighborhood. Please let me know. Thank you!

  3. Last time I took down a tree I rented from a place that is no longer in WS. The blades were not sharpened and I had to tow it. It took way too long to do and I got covered in resin :)

I now take them down in pieces and cut them up into yard waste size pieces and dry the rest for the fireplace. Yard waste is picked up every week now. It gets professionally composted and I buy it back at WSB sponsor E-Green :)

Seems cheaper and more efficient to me but your mileage may vary.

The mound of chips got spread around and disappeared within 3 months.

  4. JanS - me too!! On both both parts. Funny how these things seep into our cultural consciousness.

Ken - It may have been Star Rentals. Now on 4th ave. Home Depot suggested them, but I checked out their web site and they seem more focused on larger rentals (cranes, etc). Fingers crossed that someone nearby has a smallish chipper. I just trimmed some branches, nothing large.

  6. Thanks, MrJT. I just called them and they do have a wood chipper for rent, but it is industrial sized and costs $130 for four hours. Definitely good information should I have a larger project in the future.
