I just moved down to Alki & have had Comcast for the last month. Tons of hidden charges for internet and horrible customer service. So I returned the equipment. I have been looking around and noticed that they all average between $30-$35 for internet only, just curious to see who people are using and why. I have also looked at Century Link & Clear Wire. Thanks!!

Welcome to the neighborhood, and here are my observations and experiences. I live on the point at Duwamish Head, so coverage maybe different than over at Alki.
I had a wireless connection through Verizon, and it functioned well, but slow speed and $60 per month plus taxes.
My basic tv cable is covered by HOA, so I did not want to pay Comcast $ so went with ClearWire. I have two laptop wireless (4G) connections for $60 taxes included. It is not 4g speed, and does have slow periods and dropped connections periodically. But the service is portable if I want to take my laptop on the road.If I was working from home, and transmitting large amounts on data, or large files, ClearWire would be less than ideal. But I use my laptops for mostly personal stuff, emails, WSB etc, so Clear is working well for the price.
I hope that helps, if you have any other questions, post away.

Those hidden charges are taxes mostly federal ones you will have them on century link also not sure of clear but they have sketchy service in West Seattle with all the hills

Friends of mine live on Alki and find they STILL cannot get a decent speed on DSL. It has to do with distance from the digital switch. Because of that, neither Qwest nor Speakeasy are options. Clear (partly owned by Comcast) works but isn't very fast. Comcast is really about the only option. It's the price you pay for living on the edge.

Unfortunately, Comcast is the only real choice in most location if you do more than casually browse the web/email. When Comcast is actually up and working, it's great. Lately however, there have been service interruptions (ranging from 20min to multiple hours) here in the Alaska Junction on a weekly basis. City-wide fiber would certainly be nice - or at least choices of real high speed connections (I've had Clear, DSL, etc. they all pretty much suck for heavy usage).

Thank you so much for your replies...I had a feeling that these were the answers I was going to get! WSB forum hasn't let me down so far, so that's why I wanted to check it out! It is the price for living on the edge!! Gene: I was thinking the exact same thing yesterday, re: city-wide fiber!
I appreciate ALL of your feedback! Not sure what I am going to do...I don't have cable, so I stream most of my music and shows that I want to watch.
