Injured wild bird - anyone know what I can do?

  1. I have a wild bird with an injured wing in my backyard, I think it is some kind of thrush. It can only get about a foot off the ground and about a foot of distance. Is there anywhere I can take the bird so it can heal and be released? I am worried one of the cats in the neighborhood is going to get this bird before the injury can heal on its own (if it even will). Thankfully there is plenty of shelter in my yard so it is able to hide (not from a cat though) and I have thrown some bird seed on the ground for it to eat.

  2. You can bring it out to PAWS and if it can be healed they will rehab it and release it.

I don't think there is anywhere closer.

There is a vet in Renton (just north of the Fred Meyer) named Renton Vet Hospital that used to take injured animals and birds as they have a Sarvey animal ambulance that comes by daily (or as needed). I have taken a few birds there over the years. That said, with the recession, things may be different. Call them: 425-255-8676

Also try calling Renton Vet...Jan White, the Vet, takes in injured wildlife/birds and contacts Sarvey. If they aren't open, contact Sarvey directly. They will rehab and if it cannot be set free, will try find a sanctuary for the bird.
As with all non-profits, they depend on donations, so if you can afford it, know they would appreciate it.

Although PAWS will rehab, if the bird cannot be re-released to the wild, the will (humanely) kill it. We took an injured bird there once and that is what happened.

  5. Thanks everyone, I'll get in touch with Sarvey.

  6. Spoke with the folks at Sarvey, if I can catch the bird I can take it to Five Corners Animal Hospital, the closest pick up point. The down side is Sarvey won't be picking up there until Monday.
    Thanks again!
