  1. I just spoke with the Heartland Cafe and they would love to have an impromptu election returns viewing party tonight in the Benbow...

i told them i didn't have a clue how many...
that i was posting it on the blog...
and they were ok with that.

anyone want to come tip a drink or two and maybe nosh on some appetizers and trash talk?

    i'll bring name tags:)

  2. i just opened an email from the conway campaign against Rand Paul and they report that the numbers are huge on the east coast...

i don't know what that means yet.. but i think this is going to be an interesting evening.

They've already called it for Paul.

  4. lindsey...

but the numbers aren't as far apart as they were...
and although the polls are nearly closed..
the percentage of the vote that has been counted is still small...

    we will see..
like i said, i think it is going to be an interesting night.

    ***

someone actually emailed me to ask why i was being divisive with this leftie invitation :(

i just don't feel like fighting tonight...

    I want a drink..
i may splurge on one of my 2 or 3 near beers a year tonight...
    and something to eat..
    and good conversation...

    tonight calls for good humor.
    the battle has been waged
we will know the winners and losers soon enough...

you don't have to consider yourself a leftie or a liberal to join in the fun...
i don't need you to agree with me to enjoy your company..

but i just don't feel like an out and out slugfest tonight...

    ********

i have some errands to run but plan to be there around 6
don't know how long i will stay.

  5. Rand Paul, IMO, is one..ummm...hesitate to use the word "scary"...so I'll just say...strange guy...

  6. btw, the more success the Tea Baggers have (I am showing respect, using capital letters) the better it is for the left down the road. Think Ross Perot and Ralph Nader. Split and divide!!

We're just going to watch the leftie liberal election returns -- that leaves lots of room for other folks to watch, um, other returns on the same set. :-)

I've made >200 calls on behalf of Alan Grayson Dem Rep in Florida -- he's behind 37 - 64 percent.

  8. FWIW since you guys are talking election returns - Joe Fitzgibbon's election-night party is at Skylark, Mike Heavey's party is at Beveridge Place Pub, and Joe McDermott is at Calamity Jane's in Georgetown. Diana Toledo has sent e-mail saying she is having an election night barbecue but it doesn't say where. That's the roundup of West Seattle-specific candidates. Regardless of who you are rooting for, happy election night to all ... I always celebrate the fact we !still! have the right (and duty IMO) to vote.

  9. 2004 was the last chance to save this country from the theofasciest and objectivist morons. Tonight will be ugly. Citizen United guaranteed that and was a direct result of Republican Supreme court packing.

It will get waaaay uglier before the "average" voter realizes the extent of the lies paid for by corporations.

Hopefully I will be dead by the time the corporations have actual open control of the government but it looks like it is coming a bit too fast.

It's too late, Ken -- we aren't dead yet and the takeover happened long ago.

  11. it turned out we didn't need name tags...
    everyone already knew one another

We did get to meet the owners and have an interesting conversation with them before they moved to the McDermott party in Georgetown...

One of these days we should take the conversation we had with them about how we label ourselves... and how the connotations of those terms differ depending upon age... further...

It has been a disappointing night politically...
tho.. so far... not the complete rout that Smitty envisioned.

My near beer did soften the blow
but I still can't find any way to put a positive spin on this so i am off to bed.

    tomorrow.

  12. Years ago I watched this ridiculous movie that had ideas about the future so far fetched I thought it absurd: It was a future with just 4 corporations: air, water, food and entertainment. The movie was Rollerball. We're almost there.

  13. Yes, nationally, a complete repudiation of Obama and Pelosi policies.

  14. Rich,

I hate to rain on your parade. Yesterday the Dems controlled all 3 branches of the Legislature, today they control 2, and the 2 most powerful at that. While I would never vote R, I actually think the left will be better in the long run losing the house. Now, we can go to church and pray that Clarence Thomas falls down some stairs in the next 2 years!!

  15. well, now is the timethat the prez and the house are gonna have to work together,i.e., compromise...the very thing that John Boehner swore he'd never do. This should be interesting.

It's time for all that rhetoric to go away, and for them to do what we are sending them there for. They have 2 years. As one "pundit" said...it's like free agency in baseball. We'll give you the contract, but we'll evaluate it next year, and if you're not producing, contract is not reoffered. They can't just keep saying "no". The people did this so there could/would be change..now let's hope they produce.

  16. Jan,

Why do they have to work together? The game has been changed, you can be assured he will become the President of NO. It worked for the R's, so whats good for one party, is good for another.

In this case, I'm with Carson -- (my Jon Stewart glow went the way of Boehner's fake tan.) I think it's unlikely that the D's will fight fire with fire. But it would be a joy to see.

  18. The white House is already making "listening to America" noises :(

You know.. the angry Americans who get all of the press... not those who show up on his doorstop to say enough is enough.

it's a pity the man didn't cross the park to meet those who elected him. After all.. it was only a comedy show.

this morning progressive change asked what i thought. I told them. I posted their link to facebook so you can tell them. But i don't really believe anyone is listening. They just want to know what line to sell us to get us to open our pocketbooks.

I broke my own rule and donated more money this election cycle than I did in the past 5 combined... but I don't think i will be that foolishly naive again... all "they" are going to get from now on is my opinion.

Our centrist President just got the message to be more centrist from our republican opponents:(

that whooshing sound you hear is "deficit reduction" pulling the plug on social security.. before the next session even begins :(

  19. HMCRich...

if you think the "people" have spoken..
    you are deluding yourself.

    money spoke...
and you bought everything it said.

    remember Newt and his contract?
Can't wait to see the new crop fall in line.

    They will still speak stupid
    but will vote corporate line.

What we just saw isn't the repudiation of Obama's policies...
What we just saw is the failure of those policies to go far enough.
