   The ugly process of school closures is over for now. But we are not done. The financial crisis goes beyond the Seattle school district encompassing the entire state. Washington State ranks 44th in k-12 per-pupil spending, 46th in student-teacher ratio and 46th in public effort. State education funding has been steadily declining for the past 25 years (the past 25 years includes both good and bad economic times). NOW is the time to stand up and let the legislature and governor know we want our schools funded so that other children do not have to endure what Seattle children have been through. NOW is the time to stand up and say that a 57% state high school graduation rate is not enough. Please go to the League of Education Voters' website http://www.educationvoters.org/basiceducationfunding and find out what you can do to help ALL our children.

   This is an excellent point. Thank you for posting it. We will include in our next followup on "what's next" following last night's vote. There are some bills pending in the Legislature now - I hope they're addressed on your site.

   Amen, and yes, indeed.

   We can make some headway, but to make more than a little, we're also going to have to stand up against all the "Eyman"s, and make the point that collectively, we can be more cost-effective than we can individually. This is called "taxes". It's not a dirty word, although the "Eyman"s would have us believe it was. It's actually a brilliant invention of the modern world, to pool our resources and harness our collective purchasing power.
