I think the community should rise up and buy the hole. I'd like to see a community pool with a roof like Safeco field. And it would be deep enough to have high dives! We could have boat lessons, canoe lesson, scuba lessons, etc. Maybe add a beach with sand and special heat lamps? What do you think?

No way, it should be a giant mud hole for some mud boggin!

If you've got $21 million (the current amount of the loan that's being foreclosed), you could probably do just about anything with it. As long as DPD said OK. Maybe a super slide ... climb on at the top of the hole, slide down to the bottom.

I think they should build a Trader Joe's.

I'm all for a pool..
but don't have 21 mil in small change right now:(Posted 2 years ago # -
How about we throw everyone that has complained about it, in it. THEN build the Trader Joe's
Posted 2 years ago # -
I like MrJT! the trader joes can then be haunted from all the dead complainers and we can have huge halloween parties there.

I think we should make it an ampitheatre / urban park. Create a gradual grade from the potential entry point (by Jiffy Lube) to the opposite side which would make an excellent back drop for outdoor plays, movie viewings etc...
I wish people would hush about the TJ's already, just go to Burien for chrisakes.

Next door, at the abandoned Huling Bros lot, I'm going to put in a dog park, complete with a dog pool.

or fill it with water, float the Kalakala, and WS could have it's own floating restaurant...

Jan wins :)
I'd love to see a 'Downtown Dog Lounge' kinda place in WS that could handle big dogs as well as small ones.

and yeah..enough with the TJ's stuff. zzzzzzz. Go get a $4 bottle of wine and put a fork in it.:)

Stock it with trout.

Some good ideas so far!
I especially like Jan's and Hunter's. :-)
My thought, was to see if West Seattle Bowl would pitch in, and then they could set up some kind of extreme bowling thing.
Not exactly sure how it would work, whether all or part of the south wall of their building would be knocked out, and the extreme bowling would involve the ball being rolled, or perhaps thrown, at a high rate of speed, for a long distance, to knock down the pins. (The lanes on the north side of the alley would remain traditional bowling.)
If that scenario wouldn't be feasible, then keeping the building pretty much intact, and have the extreme bowling as a seperate entity in the "hole".

I would love to see a skating rink so I didn't have to go so far to watch my 4 year old grandson play hockey!
Posted 2 years ago # -
Fill it with politicians, cover it over, and top it with a free health clinic . . .
Posted 2 years ago # -
Skating rink- YES! Make it dual, ice on bottom and roller on top.
Posted 2 years ago # -
I say we fill it with charcoal and hickory and have a huge, old school, West Seattle BBQ Bonfire for the christmas holiday.
Posted 2 years ago # -
Todd..don't you remember??? Mayor Duffus said bonfires contributed to Global Warming or some such nonsense when he tried to ban them on Alki.
-
hmm...maybe we could fill it with Republicans.:)

We could do our own version of the LaBrea Tar Pits. We could be the Pine sap pits.

We need an all night diner for breakfast at 3 in the morning.

I'm with Escondido ... wouldn't it be cool if we could have a world class year round aquatic center with bromine or slat water instead of chlorine treatment system? Diving pools, steam rooms, saunas, water slides. Kind of like what Bainbridge has ... but bigger.
Reference other pool systems with less toxic water treatment methods.

landfill- fill it up and cover - use methane gas to heat low income housing built on top. Hole is not worth 21 mil. Unless u are Paris Hilton.
Posted 2 years ago # -
jschu - lol...
Posted 2 years ago # -
Advertise it as "Underground West Seattle" and take unsuspecting cruise-line tourists cash?
Posted 2 years ago # -
Fill it with water, market it as a wishing well, and hope we can collect $21 million to actually do something with the site?
How about turning it into a free parking lot, since that seems to be disappearing...

I am still confused on why in the world people think we need a Trader Joe's here. The last thing WS needs is another grocery store; especially another pretentious, overpriced one. What we do need is a good donut shop and a decent independent video store.

TKDguy..
if there was a Trader Joes in West Seattle, i would shop there more often...
If you are buying only mass produced goods, i can understand why you would find trader joes overpriced and pretentious, but many of the organic products i buy are much cheaper there.. as is the specialty dogfood i feed the pups... and the dog treats... and the soap i use.. and...
my only complaint with them is that so much of their fresh product comes from California. it takes some effort to find local product there.

Yes, build a swimming pool that actually has flags and real lane lines and keep the temperature under 81 degrees!
Posted 2 years ago # -
I love the idea of a skating rink or pool. Something to keep us all active that would be reasonably priced!
Posted 2 years ago # -
fetch..that's a sweeet avatar pic :)
may we can landfill the whole and make a little off leash area :)
