   I live in the Highland Park area, not far from the Westcrest dog park, and while I love dogs, I don't own one (just can't swing it between work and other busy life matters). But I love to walk, and I would like to volunteer to walk your dog, if you don't live too far away. I typically take long walks on weekends when it's not pouring, and after work when it's light out in the spring and summer.

   I figured that there are probably people who own dogs that would love to go to the park, but for whatever reason they don't want to or cannot walk them, and I just enjoy being around dogs, and walking, so I thought I might see if anyone would be interested in having their pup taken out for a jaunt. No charge, just the enjoyment of walking, maybe throwing a ball if your dog enjoys that.

   I hope this doesn't come across as strange or creepy; I just feel like my long walks are wasted without a happy furry critter when I'm sure there are many of them out there who'd like to go along.    I wish we lived closer to you and you could walk our golden retriever whenever you wanted (she can never be exercised enough!) Unfortunately we're near the junction. I completely understand needing a dog fix- I was the same in college when I didn't have a dog and went to the local shelter to get my fix (which is how I ended up with the rott, Emmy, in the pic).    I'd be afraid to go to the shelter; that would almost certainly erode the fine line of willpower that's keeping me from adopting a dog anyway, even though I don't really have the time to give one the full-time attention it would deserve. Your rottie is so pretty! I had a beagle-dachshund mix that looked a lot like her; I miss that hound.

   ihope somebody takes you up on your offer
   i know there are lots of pooches out there whose owners would like to be able to give them more walks

   if only i lived nearby.. my pooches could use both new friends and more exercise...

   Another option for you is to volunteer at a Shelter as a dog walker (or in some way, there are lots of options).
   I volunteer with the Humane Sociey on the Maxmobile (we will be at Next to Nature today) and thats how I get my fix!

   Lisa, that's a great idea! I am always nervous that I'll end up breaking down and feeling sorry for all the dogs, and bringing one home (I really can't though). Maybe I'll see if I could walk some shelter dogs though.

   Saving Great Animals (a local rescue-find them on facebook) is actively looking for a volunteer dog walker for their latest rescue, a german shepherd/st.bernard mix. He is living in a foster home is W Seattle.

   Just bumping this...happy new year! I'd still be up for walking nearby folks' dogs on the weekends, and later, when it's not dark after work, on weekdays sometimes. No charge, nothing strange; I just love dogs, can't have my own and enjoy walking. So...if your pup needs a walk, let me know!

    Pangolin, good for you for realizing that adopting a dog requires the time to actually take care of it, and not just stick it out in the back yard. Hopefully you'll soon be in a position to adopt your own! Sounds like you'll be a great pet parent. :)

    Thanks, TreyseaLin. I would love to own one and have in the past when I was married; with two people it's much easier. But if for some reason I couldn't get home from work on time, or was otherwise delayed, I hate the thought of a patient but anxious dog waiting to go outside to finally go potty. And dogs that live only in the yard make me sad. Dogs like to be part of their human pack; they were bred to be with us! There's nothing sweeter than a dog at your feet. Not to mention it makes cleaning the kitchen floor easier. :)

    Just bumping this. The offer stands; weekends mainly. I just love dogs, don't have one of my own, nor can I at this time. But if anyone in the Highland Park/Westcrest Park area would like me to take their dog for a walk or to the park, I'd love to! Even in the rain!

    I wonder if I advertised to do this for a fee, if I might get a better response. I suppose people just think it's strange to let a stranger walk their dog at no charge?

    Dear P.Pie, I have a client who has Alzheimer's and lives in the nursing home Mt. St. Vincents. She can't remember if and when the dog went out for his walk and business> Are you available am and pm. And can you give a pill (thyroid)? Stranger things have happened. Please reply to Vanessa@CareAtHomeSeattle.com Thanks. There would at least be a nice tip involved. We were looking to pay someone $10 per trip.

    I work days until 4 or 4:30, so it sounds like this probably is a task for someone who has days free. I wish I could, though. I hope you find someone! I am glad that the lady is able to have her dog with her at the nursing home. If I hear of anyone who can help I will definitely let you know!

    Do you see a dog on your walks that is 'cooped up'? note the address and send a postcard suggesting your free walk offer...we did free dogsitting(when we were between dogs) and I found dogs while they were being walked and just let the folks know and gave them my phone number. Good luck! Maybe more people will think about doing this. (Maybe there is someone at the SHAG housing on Roxbury who would be a good match!!)
