Is anyone else sick to death of the surfeit of \'heart\' on this blog? Looking over the forums these days takes a strong stomach. You\'d think there was a big old sloppy love-fest going on in WS - that is until you read the political threads. :)

Not advocating it but what I meant was if we had custie avatars or emoticons.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  7. i was sent a whole list of backside emoticons recently that i chose not to pass on here..

though i have to admit some of them were pretty tempting.

    villagegreen,

My last post: \"I heart West Seattle!\" was my first offense of this.

    In my defense...

After a three hour drive in the pouring rain driving home from Canada I was feeling a little \"sloppy love-fest-ish\" about WS.

  11. thriftwaygirl..

you\'re allowed.. but if i see little bunnies hopping across my screen.. i will protest loudly.

I\'ll do my best in the future to not be so mushy!!

    Posted 3 years ago #
  13. I dont\' think I\'ve ever been mushy on WSB, but I want to say I \"heart\" JT and cruiser.

    There, I said it!

JimmyG - JT has become one of my very best friends (and to think we are polar opposites on most issues).

It is true, if you think she is great because of what she posts, you would be even more impressed to meet her in person.

She truly is one of the smartest people I\'ve ever met. I am so, extremely lucky to be able to call her a friend!

    I heart JT!!!!

    Posted 3 years ago #
  18. Never met cruiser or JT in person, so I guess it\'s more accurate to say I \"heart\" their online personas.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  19. the funny thing- you don\'t need to meet someone in person to like them. An online persona is just as good as the real thing, in my book. This forum is a great way to really get to know people both virtually and in real life. For all it\'s anonymity, it\'s fairly easy to know people by the words they write. I just assume that everyone is like me, and anything they write in the forums is something they would say in real life.

JimmyG, a virtual correctly poured Guinness to you!

    Posted 3 years ago #
  21. Good idea JT...

let\'s all take a break with virtual correctly poured Guiness...

    The forum that drinks together.....

    Posted 3 years ago #
  22. JT I guess I\'ll have to make do with virtual because according to cruiser there isn\'t a real life correctly poured Guinness to be found in the area.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  23. JimmG...

I am so sorry.. but the pursuit of the elusive correctly poured guiness that cruiser missed sounds like a real calling to me:)

i bet you could find fellow crusaders for that one.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  24. Nope.
I\'ll just go back to Ireland soon enough and drink a few pints or a few hundred before I return.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  25. Okay, y\'all, it\'s settled then. Big happy sloppy spleeny WSB meetup in Dublin. My virtual online persona is already there. **slurp**

    Posted 3 years ago #
  26. perhaps you could go to the celtic swell and ask them to pour you one correctly....the owners I believe are all from ireland.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  27. dang...now I am craving Guinness...or as I like to call it: \"chocolate milk for grownups\" ...I guess I don\'t know the difference between a properly or improperly poured Guinness...I think it still tastes great either way - with a shot of Jamesons on the side.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  28. rs261 I tried the Celtic Swell about a month after they opened and was very disappointed.

I suppose I should give them another try although I avoid Alki like the plague except during the deepest darkest of winter.

JenV and anyone else who loves Guinness - My good friend pours a shot amount of chambroid (s?) into her guinness and says that it tastes like a shake.

Never personally tried it, but just thought I\'d throw it out there in case you\'re into trying new things!

    Cheers!

MrJT - I know! But, evidently, it\'s delicious.

    So...... the point was........?

    Posted 3 years ago #
  34. I *think* the point was that people were searching for an \"authentic\" Guinness at a local watering hole. Putting shots of any kind in a Guinness would be, to a purist, the height of beer blasphemy!

When I want flashbacks I drink Erdingers, because that\'s what we always drank in the pubs. Go figure. Maybe it was a Derry thing...

Sorry all - Just wanted to share a suggestion!

Didn\'t know it would be construed as offensive.

  36. Beef and Guinness Stew

    Ingredients:

    * 2 pounds lean stewing beef
    * 3 Tablespoons oil
    * 2 Tablespoons flour
    * Salt and freshly ground pepper and a pinch of cayenne
    * 2 large onions, coarsely chopped
    * 1 large clove garlic, crushed (optional)
    * 2 Tablespoons tomato puree, dissolved in 4 tablespoons water
    * 1-1/4 cups Guinness stout beer
    * 2 cups carrots, cut into chunks
    * Sprig of thyme

    Preparation:
Trim the beef of any fat or gristle, cut into cubes of 2 inches (5cm) and toss them in a bowl with 1 tablespoon oil. Season the flour with salt, freshly ground pepper and a pinch or two of cayenne. Toss the meat in the mixture.

Heat the remaining oil in a wide frying pan over a high heat. Brown the meat on all sides. Add the onions, crushed garlic, and tomato puree to the pan, cover and cook gently for about 5 minutes.

Transfer the contents of the pan to a casserole, and pour some of the Guinness beer into the frying pan. Bring to a boil and stir to dissolve the caramelized meat juices on the pan.

Pour onto the meat with the remaining Guinness; add the carrots and the thyme. Stir, taste, and add a little more salt if necessary.

Cover with the lid of the casserole and simmer very gently until the meat is tender -- 2 to 3 hours. The stew may be cooked on top of the stove or in a low oven at 300 degrees F. Taste and correct the seasoning. Scatter with lots of chopped parsley.

    Yield: 6 to 8 servings

Awesome! Can\'t wait to give that a try. I think I can handle it even though I\'m a terrible cook. Bring on the cold weather! Oh, wait, what am I saying? Summer, please come back.
