Because it killed traffic on my street completely. So wonderfully quiet today.

I live on Lincoln Park Way, a main connector street between Fauntleroy and Beach Dr. It's a residential block but on a normal weekend more like a super highway of roaring biker brigades, low riders, unmuffled pickup trucks, hearing impaired party motorists with deafening car stereoes, and a steadier constant of traffic than the average LA freeway.

    Today? Quiet.
    Love, love, love.

So all you people who won't let me sleep past 8 AM on the normal weekend morning: Good riddance! I don't miss you! Hooray for vehicle free Alki!

To all you Easy Riders who roar up and down my street in a cacaphonic drone all weekend long in wolf packs.....we hate you! All the neighbors hate you. You think that 185 decibel Harley makes you great and virile? Get some Viagra and stay home. Your turbo jetted motorcycles are impressing no one, and speaking for everyone on the block, please rot and die on your shiny polished noise machines.

Car Free day is the best thing that ever happened to my neighborhood, and we live miles from Alki. Can we have it more often please?

  2. I totally agree!! My son was so stoked to ride in the street. It was such a nice family vibe! I think they should do this a couple times in the summer. It's a great way to bring community together and promote healthy living.

  3. Fun to walk in the middle of the street.

Not so much fun to try to negotiate the detoured traffic on Admiral! There is a wonderful WSB'er who lets us use her Alki-building parking spot if it's not taken. We left for a while after the race wrapped up, returned in the afternoon, and it was taken. So I got to see what it's like for the people who try to show up around middle of the event and find themselves amid semi-heavy traffic on Admiral.

Now, if a shuttle had been running to Morgan Junction ...

  4. Truth be told, most the residents miss hearing the loud boom, boom, boom, the honking, bumper to bumper pollution, revving engines, screaming, hormonal poping sounds ect., from noon until at least midnight. Lets close the road for the summer!!!

  5. I'm surprised more people don't park at Bar-S Field.
