I lost my cool in a KFC

  1. If you were in the White center KFC when a most disagreeable almost old lady went postal..
i apologize for disturbing your dinner.

i don't know what you had to do to get what you ordered..
but my 2 drumsticks and one thigh drive thru comfort food dinner became 5 biscuits..
and a counter girl who didn't think it was her problem to correct when i had to park my car and come into the store to get my chicken.

    and wouldn't you know..
when those bisquits were replaced it was with 2 thighs and one leg.

the manager wanted to know what i wanted.

I WANTED THE 2 DUMSTICKS, 1 THIGH, POTATOES AND GRAVY AND COLESLAW THAT I ORDERED.

and i wanted to be served by people who pretended to want my business...
at least enough to make sure that when they fixed their mistake they got the order right.

the manager did give me both boxes of chicken... i suppose my size made her think that would make me a satisfied customer.

Now i have 3 thighs and 2 biscuits i didn't want sitting in my refrigerator mocking my lack of self control.

    it's been a difficult day.

I soooooo thought this was going to be a story about you walking into KFC and yelling at everyone for eating factory farmed chickens.

  4. Chaco Canyon is right around the corner. Their food makes you feel much better and they are nice and the experience is way better. You actually WANT to park your car and go in and sit down and have a nice meal. Just sayin.

ACC, she went to the KFC in White Center, so your comment doesn't hold in this case.
And I loooove Chaco Canyon Cafe, but if I were craving fried chicken, CCC is not going to satisfy that craving. That said, I would never eat KFC chicken, either.
West Seattle, we're getting our Trader Joe's; I think we're ready for the next challenge! Shall we start a campaign for an Ezell's? ;-)

ACC - sounds like she was at the White Center one, not the Junction area one. But... Chaco Canyon, deeeeelicious! And yes, super nice. The lady was very patient with me the first time I went in and walked me through the menu items.

  7. ACC, that would be one loooooonnnnnggggg walk around the corner!

JoB was at the White Center KFC, not the West Seattle one! ;-)

They sell chicken at KFC?!?! Huh. Every time I've tried over the last few years they tell me they are out and that I'd have to wait 25 minutes if I wanted chicken. I thought it was just a ruse to get me to buy cole slaw and biscuits.

I gave up on them long ago....

    Posted 11 months ago #
  9. Sorry that happened to you JoB. We were just talking tonight about an incident where I about strangled a pizza delivery guy because he delivered a pizza with items on it that I specifically told them to leave off. Talk about killing the messenger. It wasn't pretty. And they didn't seem to care when I called to complain. Very frustrating. I hope tomorrow brings a much better day for you.

  10. JoB,

Sorry you had a bad experience.

Years ago when I was a long haul trucker, (just think CW McCall, Convoy, 10-4 good buddy, etc) there was a chain of truck stops in the western states named Bingo.

Normally located on a large dirt or gravel parking lot, they were nothing more than a fuel stop, usually out in the middle of nowhere, with a small 7-11 like market in the same building as the cashier.

Two things you could always depend on besides the diesel fuel and the gallon sized containers of engine lube oil - the Costco sized jumbo hot dogs, and the "complete" chicken dinner.

After a long day of driving, there was nothing like a Bingo dog, combined with a complete chicken dinner. The Bingo dog came in a little cardboard tray. You never really knew how long it had been rotating on the hot dog warmer. I never asked.

The complete chicken dinner came sealed in a clear plastic (non-biodegradable) container, complete with with little paper packets of salt and pepper.

Inside were not one, but TWO hard boiled eggs :) Over half a million miles and they never screwed up once :)

    --------------------

Thirty years later - many truck stops now feature on site KFCs and A&Ws to name a few. Both names, including Taco Bell, Long John Silvers, and Pizza Hut are all brands owned by "Yum Brands!" headquartered out of Louisville KY.

    Welcome to corporate America...
    .

  11. YUM was spun off from pepsico to hold their fast food brands. That is why you cannot buy coke products in any of their stores.

The WC KFC has never yet gotten a drive through order right for me.

The odds of this happening seemed incredible at the time. I have not stopped there in years.

I was very clear that i was ordering junk food
    something i don't' normally do

but when the acid from my stomach is burning in my throat...
there is something about KFCs mashed potatoes and gravy that is very comforting..
add the grease from the chicken
and the comfort of chewing on a bone
and i can almost forget how bad i feel

if i can do it drive through
i can enjoy it in the comfort of my own home
    with my feet propped up
in the glow of the flicking light of the boob tube...

    when my feet hurt
and my stomach is a mess
and i am not fit company for humans or dogs
nothing hits my comfort spot like drive through KFC

except perhaps a DQ banana split.

next time i will ignore all pretense of nutrition
and head straight for the banana split

  14. "but when the acid from my stomach is burning in my throat..."
Is that a poetic way of saying you've got an itch for trash food or is it a little more literal?

One thing I've discovered while getting older: Papaya enzymes, chewable, and essential enzymes. Both ward off having to take Nexium.

    Posted 11 months ago #
  15. dhg...

    too often it's literal:(

took prilosec for years till i found out i was better off without it.

had it controlled with enzmes until i did too much and went off my diet and caught some truly ugly flu..

    better today..
didn't think of sticking chewable enzymes in the car... great idea.

    can i get them locally?

Job I know your felling won't say witch one I was at when they gave me that bucket of grease. I think the chicken was in there. They said its ok looks good to me the little thing going on 18 yrs old. The manager said looks ok... untill I pour it out yes it ran all over the counter did then manager said heres your money back......

    Posted 11 months ago #
  18. Waynster...

i stopped going to the West Seattle KFC because they couldn't get an order right and i brought home one order that i didn't think was safe to eat...
they offered me a free chocolate dessert when i brought it back and then didn't put it in the sack :(

but i was having better luck at the White Center KFC.. at least with the day crew.
i won't be going back there either now.

Ok.. i get that it's KFC.
I knew exactly what i was and wasn't buying.

What i can't understand is why the basic concept of wanting what you paid for is so difficult to grasp.

That's why they work in fast food because they don't follow instructions properly. Don't mess with the JoB.

JoB -- you have my full support on deciding that you needed comfort food and that only KFC would do (my dealer of choice is Taco Time since that was my college hangout in Cheney.) Usually when I am in the mode of requiring comfort food, my fuse is already either extremely short or non-existent.

Research has shown that the desire for comfort foods can be triggered by high stress situations. So, its a way of self-medicating when indulged in sparingly. And besides, it just plain tastes good ... you get that rush with the first bite of mashed taters and gravy ...

SarahScoot - We had an Ezell's in White Center a few years ago....I think it was in the old Wendy's/Peruvian restaurant/now vacant building. I was so excited because I had heard how great they were, but I was definitely not impressed. Tasted kind of like the Banquet frozen stuff from the grocery store. Maybe we just caught them on a bad day, but I didn't get what all the fuss was about!

  23. Uh oh, it looks like a few of us kinda piled on ACC!

Hope she doesn't sic her Chupacabra on us! =:-o

Speaking of Cs...I almost lose my cool when I feel like I can actually afford PCC. What gets me are the shoppers who see me pushing my cart down the aisle, look at me and then stop their cart right in front of me. It takes every last ounce of willpower to not take my cart and use it as a weapon, or break into the gosh darn kombucha. Or, to wield my soymilk and organic chocolate as a shield and sword.
My new favorite fast food dish are the chocolate dipped cones at Dairy Queen.

  25. SarahScoot - sometimes we do not agree on things. But by god, I could get behind a second run at an Ezell's. I'm sick of going all the way out to effin' Skyway for my chicken!!

Not to hijack the thread, but I think this speaks to the larger issue of the lack of customer service these days. Seems like most businesses don't have a clue, and it's not just the junk food spots. There's just no excuse for that level of incompetence, even at minimum wage.

JoB, I heart you, your craving, and totally get your response.

KFC seems to hire morons exclusively. They couldn't get my order right in Monterey, California, either. It was not complicated.

Marco Polo has the best fried chicken I've had since leaving the south. With the "underused" 4th Ave exit, it's quicker for me to get there than White Center. Marco Polo is located close to 4th & Lucille, a couple doors down from Subway.

Must have been a very bad day elika, I've never had bad chicken at Ezells. Completely addicted to the Cajun spiced chix, probably best they NOT be closer, but I would still like to see them give WS/WC another try. Maybe in a slightly wealthier part of our community than their last go.
Burgermaster need to expand over here, too.

I've never had as bad of luck with fast food as I do with that KFC. I swear off of it now. Got tired of every order being wrong. Anywhere else local with quick mashed potaos an gravy?

It is a dead giveaway that a fast food restaurant that serves Pepsi products only, is marginal, at best! LOL

  32. It's ok MIWS, I am used to being attacked...hehe. My Chupa will only attack you if you have treats on you, I guess if you have some KFC with you, she will.

I am just excited that you people think White Center is still considered West Seattle. We just moved to the border of White Center and I don't want to lose my West Seattle status..hehe.

  33. westcoastdeb - the answer to your question is yes - my fav is Metropolitan Market deli - I think you can get them at Thriftway too. I'm partial to the prime rib dinner at Metropolitan Market... now that I think about it - its been quite a while - must be time for trip down to Admiral Way.. :)
