That entire rant makes me laugh. What's even worse, is they now make them in pastel's for Easter. Have to confess, I do like some of them. There are better brands than others. The cheap ones you can get for 99 cents a bag, yuck. I had some made with honey one year. Pretty good.

Hope you don't let them ruin your holiday though.

  3. I just bought the caramel apple kind in hopes that it will change my mind. Darn you Metropolitan Market! Darn you to heck with your little Halloween Candy display! *shakes fist angrily*

  4. Can't stand regular candy corn, but I love Brach's Indian Corn--made with real cocoa and honey--100 times better than candy corn.

And then there are peeps -- 200 percent sugar that make my teeth shudder to think of them. :-)

I like to bite off one strip of color at a time...but once a year is enough.

  7. I agree with the OP - yuck on candy corn!! I fill up my candle holders with 'em for a little decorative twist...

    Posted 3 years ago #
  8. GHO - me too! Like every color has a different flavor, which it totally doesn't. I am usually good with one handful a year at best.

  10. A coworker sorts her M&M's and then eats them in a specific color order...odd!

    Posted 3 years ago #
  11. My best friend has not eaten a green M&M in her life. I blame half the cellulite on my thighs from her eating them in my presence. There is a high occurrence of green M&Ms in every bag.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  12. You know what they say about eating green M&Ms....

    Posted 3 years ago #
  13. LOL! OK, seriously I thought that I had made that up in my crazy little head. I was like "No... there's no way people actually thought that... I must have been dreaming."

Something tells me that if that was the reason, she just would have kept right on eating them.

There was the best episode of Malcolm in the Middle where the older brother eats a ton of peeps while his classmates count. He is lying on the floor foaming as they are counting, "99, 100...99, 98, 97". Priceless. I hate peeps as much as you hate candy corn!

    Posted 3 years ago #
  15. I have never understood the whole peeps thing- other than the fact they are cute. They just taste like foam covered in pokey sugar. But I understand they are pretty fun to microwave!

    Posted 3 years ago #
  16. The only edible candy corn is made by Brach's. Everything else is so disgusting I don't even want to think about it.

I can eat an entire large bag of Brach's candy corn or indian corn in one sitting... which is why I don't let myself buy it anymore! :D

However, the next time I'm in Full Tilt I think I may make a flavor suggestion...

Whatever happened to the Halloween candy corn? Pumpkins and Witches etc... Am I showing my age here?

Oh well I admit I eat it, once a year, love that 15 minutes of sugar high before zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    Posted 3 years ago #
  18. I'm another one that doesn't like candy corn!

I didn't even realize it came in other flavors!

  19. Save the peeps for Peeps S'mores :)

    Posted 3 years ago #
  20. Uh, hopey...it prefers to be called "first American corn"...thanks.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  21. Zenguy, don't blame me, blame JimmyG! He said it first! :P

@CountingCoup -- they still make those, though I believe they are referred to as "mellocremes".

    Posted 3 years ago #
  22. So we are instructing members, among them "Hopey (or "Hopi?") and "Counting Coup" about "First Nation's Corn"? :-)...

(PS. This and Smartees were always at the bottom of my halloween bag by Thanksgiving.)

I thought I was the only one that hates candy corns! I been avoiding them since I was a kid! Now I only buy candy corns at Halloween so I don't throw myself into a diabetic coma by eating any of the candy!

Woah woah woah, hold on just a minute there. Alright, AReader, are you the same person who posted on epicurious.com, or did you just steal that poster's entry to copy here? And either way, I can't believe you don't like homemade natural candy corn with real butter! Has *anyone* declaring your disgust for candy corn ever tried making it yourselves? I thought not! :) Seriously, I hate that drugstore sh**, too, but then a friend awakened me to the homemade version. I found the same recipe linked to from AReader's post on (forge from?) epicurious (the vegan one), along with another natural one that used butter. OMG, pure butter and sugar, I was making Homer Simpson noises. I didn't cook it the right amount of time, so it got really stiff and didn't work very well. Maybe because I also used that hippie rapadura instead of sugar. Plus I don't exactly have the abundant space needed for rolling out long ropes of candy, so in the end I just ended up squishing it into a big ball that I ate, well, kind of like a caramel apple, a-hem. So back to the point, you better not be dissing ALL of candy corn until you've tried the real thing. Word!

    Posted 3 years ago #
  25. Um, yeah, AReader didn't write that but took it from my blog at Epicurious.com: http://www.epicurious.com/articlesguides/blogs/editor/2008/10/i-hate-candy-co.html .

I'm sure he simply forgot to add the proper attribution, but I'm definitely flattered that he enjoyed the my anti-candy-corn rant.

    Whoa.

    Come baaaaaack!!!!!!!!! Coooooome baack michaelypark!

Pardon me for seizing the moment, but I have to invite you to contribute a recipe or helpful tip, whatever your generous heart desires, to our humble threads soliciting West Seattle Blog Forum Readers for their favorite soups, desserts or breads. Unless you have vanished from WSB forever. :(

Really! I think that would be awesome and West Seattle foodie folks would probably get a kick out of it too!

I'll so be visiting your site!
    Thanks for stopping by!

    Arietta - Funny.

  30. My attention was JUST called to this.
DO NOT EVER SNIP UNATTRIBUTED MATERIAL.
    It is a copyright violation.
Same goes for anyone taking material (or photos) from our site, and I have done exactly what Michael Park did above, elsewhere.
I am deleting the text in the OP because it was a copyright violation and a WSB rule violation.
Use a link and say "there's a funny paragraph about candy corn at (link)" - even with the link, do NOT use more than a line of the excerpt.

And anyone who sees something like this happen (this was not immediately obvious here, but other times it is obvious, if someone perhaps unknowingly cuts and pastes an article from a newspaper, for example) -- I appreciate being flagged so I can fix it before somebody finds it some other way like this. = TR

What's wrong with Children of the Corn?
Sure, it was a stupid movie but to bash it just before Halloween seems a bit ludicrous.

I have children that eat corn and respectfully ask that you let them be...

  33. this is my favorite time of the year. I get to overload on the stuff. It simply has to have honey in it and that is why I only eat the Brach's brand. Bonus: Target and Walgren puts their left over candy corn on sale for like 80% off so I get to load up all the way to new year!

    Posted 3 years ago #
  34. Last night for desert I had Brach's "First Nations" Corn.

    'Twas very tasty.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  35. And hey, where's the OP to explain his or her stealing the topic?

Yeah, JimmyG, I wonder the same.

Well, thanks, wsdood, although I've been sorely tempted to edit out the "here, arietta, have another cocktail..." part of the post. But I guess that's the fun of forums. If you can't ramble incoherently to your friends, where else can you? :)

Zenguy, in my natural candy corn rampage, I missed your post back at #10, lol. Obviously the proper way to eat M&Ms is in pairs, in the following color order: brown, yellow, orange, red, green. (The blue ones messed up everything.) Nowadays I only eat the mint ones during the holidays (omg, they're coming!) And the proper way to eat those, don'tcha know, is one of each color at a time.

Thanks for the info, TR, will let you know next time!

    JimmyG -

Perhaps the OP is over in one of the food threads sharing a new recipe for humble pie. ;)

    Arietta -
re: cocktails and forum writing! That would explain so MUCH of what I read around here...LOL!!!!
