How many keys come with a new lock?

  1. I just paid an exorbitant amount for a new lock and the locksmith only left one key. The manufacturer's webpage says the particular lock comes with two. The locksmith says 1) it comes with only 1; 2) I lost the other key; and 3) he'll check into it. Really, he said all these things (in that order). Any experience with whether a single key is ever the case?

  2. A locksmith buys lock sets wholesale. They don't come with keys, the LS can make as many keys as he wants. If he says he can not, then he is not a locksmith.

How much was a lot. I have gotten my commercial doors redone a few times, and the most I paid was $100 for 4 locks.

You can get new keys made at a hardware store though.

  3. Thanks, at least I feel better about just getting one key, but HOLY COW we paid a LOT more for a lot less!!!

We will consider raising the outrageous cost with the company, and if we do and aren't satisfied with the response, I'll post a rant with their name. But we probably won't bother. [HINT: check the online reviews for West Seattle locksmiths and pay attention!]
