My husband answered the door tonight to a man that he said seemed out of place. The man told my husband that he was checking to see if we had received our paper. He said he recently took over the route and wanted to make sure we were getting the paper. We do not get the paper. My husband said he just got an odd feeling about him. He was in his early twenties. I did not get a better description than that.
We live near 63rd and Hinds. It makes me concerned that someone is checking on houses in our neighborhood. I am glad my husband was home because normally I am not home until later. Keep an eye out folks for anything suspicious.

We live on the same corner - probably across the street from each other. My husband was out doing some errands when I heard some very loud knocks on the door @5:30ish. I called loudly several times, asking who it was, but got no answer. Of course, I didn't open the door. Thought it was probably a late package delivery, but checked after hubby got home - nothing there. Hmmm. Probably your "paper delivery" man.
Thanks for the heads-up.Posted 5 months ago # -
Same here on 64th. Loud knock--same question, "Wanted to make sure you're getting your paper." We don't get the paper, and I don't want to get the paper...he was insistent, and I had to say "No thanks" firmly and shut the door.
Heard him telling the neighbors next door that he just does this during Christmas vacation, and I think they were signing up...!?! He gave them a cell phone number.
I also noticed another man walking on the other side of the street, glancing over--coincidence,probably, but I, like you, felt it wasn't completley legit.
He had no identification, no clipboard...we had to leave, so don't know what the neighbors ended up doing.Posted 5 months ago # -
Very good of you to have such caution. It is unfortunately going to be this way from now on.
Have you called the paper (assumed The Times?) about this to check the persons story?
I believe door to door reps from any organization are required to have an ID badge on - and some sort of uniform? Would be good to get this clarified.

If it's a commercial solicitor, ID and a permit are required. Not a uniform. I too would recommend a call to the Times to ask - they have in the past had solicitors out. I got one e-mail report of this, also from the Alki area.

good to know about I'm near 57th. I don't open my door if I don't know who it is.

Had one of those "I have extra steaks to sell" guys today despite my "No Soliciting" sign! North Lincoln Park area.
