A little late, but today's LivingSocial deal is at Hotwire. You can buy a $20 Gift Card for Food and Drink for $10.

  2. I got mine! Glad to see someone posted it here. Hotwire deserves the business - great lattes, great folks.

  3. The coffee is okay, but if you go in there as an unknown customer when there are other regulars coming in, prepare to be ignored and feel like a party crasher until you eventually get your beverage.

I bought this deal. I will one-up odroku and say the coffee's pretty good, but I very rarely drink coffee and instead opt for their chai lattes. They use Morning Glory Chai (and one can choose either spicy or sweet) and generally steam to just the right temp, with nice, silky foam.
*But* yes, there does seem to be an insider's club there. I have been going about once a week for two months or so, and always get courteous service and a correct drink. When there is a regular there, I do feel as though I'm intruding. I don't begrudge them the right and need to build strong rapport with regular customers, but I do wish it didn't seem to come at the expense of building that rapport with newcomers. Overall, though, thumbs up from me. I'd rather a place that's friendly to some and just polite to others than a place that's disinterested and detached from all customers, you know?

Different experience for me. I was in there Thursday morning for the first time and was greeted warmly and had a yummy dry cappucinno post haste!

  6. Hotwire is awesome...maybe strike up a conversation or get in on the conversation that is going on. I will bet you they will include you. It's a good sign that they are personable with their customers..not a bad sign. Next time think of a super awesome joke to tell them.

Also, There is another site that you can get a deal of the day. It's cool cause they are local and they will only support local businesses..it's a company out of Redmond called YuBit.

  7. I see what you are saying about insiders; they seem to have a lot of regular customers (and I am not *yet* one of them - I don't have the type of personality that makes me one of the "regulars" easily).

But I take that as a good thing - it shows that they a) have consistent staff who get to know the customers, who b) must come in there a lot! I have not felt snubbed by being a non-regular there.

  8. oh and may I also say..I used to own a Juice Bar...it takes talent to keep a conversation and still make a bunch of drinks. You have to remember what everyone is having and make sure you don't mess up and still be able to carry on a conversation. And they got steam in their face all day. whew..hats off to those girls.

  9. Hotwire was the first-ever WSB sponsor and is with us to this day ... The interesting thing about Lora is that she's not just about coffee, she's involved in an amazing amount of community stuff too - you wouldn't believe how much she does for the Art Walk, and the West Seattle Outdoor Movies, Furry Faces Foundation, and probably a million things we've never even heard of, stuff that takes up hours and hours and hours of volunteer time besides the long hours she puts in as an entrepreneur, including time behind the counter.

Neither of us has ever been a particularly social person but when we're in there we just feel chatty. Something about the ambience.

But if you ever have a beef with anything from the coffee to the chattiness, bring it to Lora's attention - she's really approachable. (Also note that if your computer ever breaks and you have to get online, Hotwire is one of West Seattle's few "internet cafes" and a beverage purchase gets you some online time.)

Have to ditto all of WSB comments--plus, IMHO, they have the best Americano in Seattle. And a HURKIN' DITTO on how Lora spends endless hours supporting our community....don't think she ever sleeps.

Furry Faces Foundation love Lora and her staff. Hotwire is our North Headquarters and constantly supports our events--from plant sales in their courtyard; to pet food drives; to Catsino; and more.
