BOO!! This morning as I was leaving to go catch my bus to work I noticed a very large trail of horse poop all along my sidewalk. The mounted police ride down my street. Why don't the police have to follow the rules of picking up poop like dog owners? Am I expected to pick this up? So gross and so not ok. I feel like taking my dogs to their station every time they need to go and let them crap all over their parking lot. I called the police and apparently police horses are EXEMPT. And the police can just leave the poop all over. Why don't they have to wear poop catchers like downtown horses, etc.?

Kick or shovel it into your garden, it's great fertilizer.
And I welcome the SPD mounted unit to patrol my street, the horses could sh*t all up and down the block for all I care.

JimmyG, I'm glad I didn't have a mouthful of food or drink when I read your comment! :-D

It's true--it isn't like dog poop; just hay or grass. I know--lived in horseville (aka La Canada, CA) for 17 yrs. You kind of get used to it.

While excellent fertilizer, it also raises a good point about The Force not having to clean up after the horses. Horse droppings in the street is one thing--on the sidewalk is something else altogether. (Obviously, I'm a city gal not accustomed to horse apples in my path!) If someone were walking along and slipped and fell because of the manure, would The Force be liable? Kind of a stretch sure, but I do wonder...

yes, yes, yes....it is just hay and grass. AND, it was all over the sidewalk. Not a neat little pile. Like spread for 8 feet. On the sidewalk. On an arterial street. It is gross. No one would stand for that if it were dog poop. The anti-dog folks would freak out.
It is a matter of principle.Posted 2 years ago # -
I'm with Meg on this one. A little extra equipment on the horses would keep excrement to a minimum. Maybe a butt bag with quick release in the event mounted police need to take chase.

If my plants offend and warrant a citation from the city when they grow their happy little selves over the walkway, then the plant matter that comes out a horse's arse ought be an issue, too.
.
Sadly, Meg, if someone calls the city to complain about obstacles on your sidewalk, YOU will be the one cited. Good luck.Posted 2 years ago # -
It all ended well.... I finally got a hold of someone at the horse-y police place and they came and picked up. Whew.
