Are all HD stores this bad now, or is this one just particularly so? We keep saying we will never go back, but need something quick and go there since parking is easier (because no one shops there), only to have a frustrating experience. Staff that do not know where anything is, or refuse to help, leads (or managers) standing at the podium while multiple customers are struggling with the self serve checkout that is poorly programmed-even with long lines and bored looking staff they never seem to open the other lanes. But today, my husband goes back with $40 worth of extra insulation from a project-just bought it there a week ago. He hadn\'t saved his receipt but it wasn\'t a problem, they give store credit. But no, \"not in our database so you couldn\'t have bought it here\". He was too angry and tired to fight them anymore, and left them to throw it away, sadly.

The Delridge HD is the WORST. I say the same thing - I\'ll never go back - after trying them 3-4 times for various things. Staff is not helpful, slow, dismissive, one had a checker in the return line on the phone talking to a friend about how horrible her job is and continued to chat it up during the entire return -didnt say a single word to me... I wont go back there again.

  6. It is the only HD I have ever seen the parking lot almost empty on a spring Sunday afternoon. That has served as a warning to me.

YEah they don\'t serve hotdogs either. Jeesch!
Ya gotta be thankful for the empty parking lot though.

  8. When I go to Home Depot on Delridge, I usually go shortly after it opens on a Saturday or Sunday. For me, it\'s always been a good experience. People have been very friendly and helpful to me, although I rarely need help.

I usually patronize the True Value on 44th but sometimes need something they don\'t have. That\'s when I\'ll go to HD.

I agree with the others about McLendon. It\'s nice but True Value is walking distance from my house and HD is closer to me that McLendon.

And I still miss the Ernst in Westwood Village!

  9. We usually go to McLendon\'s, but if we go to Home Depot, we go to the one downtown. You can\'t beat McLendon\'s staff because they are so knowledgeable.

  10. I go to the hd on delridge. I ususally have my dad on the phone telling me where to go and what to buy. How funny is that. I don\'t bother with the staff.

Do people really go to HD seeking professional advise from the staff?

I have a Contractor assist me, personally.

BO, who said anything about professional advise? Knowing what isle something is in and then actually having it in stock, would both be great. Instead, you just get a shrug.

And actually, I guess I do expect a BusinessOwner, to know how a product they sell works. We can\'t all afford a personal contractor for every little thing.

  13. If you ask the staff or the manager, you will get this refrain.
\"We are the smallest store so...\"
    No matter what the complaint.

I got a new one recently. It seems that outside vendors are responsible for the stocking of certain parts and materials. Therefore \"it\'s not my fault\" that the price tags are entered wrong in the computer, that there are no price tags on the shelf, that there are no products matching the description on the price tag, and the most popular size of whatever you might be looking for is missing because the \"vendor\" did not do his job.

Getting project help from the oppressed serfs in there never crossed my mind. I have enough trouble just locating and buying the items I need. I still have to trek to the 1st ave store several times a year to get something the Delridge store is \"out\" of.

  15. Awful Awful Awful.

Ordered tile for our bathroom remodel 6 mos ago at the HD on Delridge. No database system look-up for this crack team. They still order from extremely old worn books with handwritten notes. In the end they had to end up calling another retail store that sold the same tile to confirm the part #.

Finally got it ordered. Made the HUGE mistake of having my Contractor pick it up since he was there anyway - and came home to find HD had ordered the wrong tile!?! After 2 hours of sitting at that stupid table confirming everything. Too late, it was already installed. My husbad said it\'s funky but has grown on him. I die a little inside every time I see it.

  16. On the positive side, they came through when our water heater went kaput last year.

On the negative side, my chief memory of the place was the time I could find plenty of people who wanted to sign me up for their discount card, but couldn\'t find anyone to help me move a 50-pound safe.

  17. All Home Depots are fairly awful, in my experience. The True Value folks on 44th couldn\'t be friendlier or more helpful, and McClendon\'s is great as well.

We bravely attempted what we thought would be a small plumbing repair with under-sink pipes bought at HD. We couldn\'t quite get things to work; scratched our heads and made multiple trips back to HD for the \"right part.\" Finally we cried Uncle and called our favorite West Seattle plumber, O\'Neill. We found out that HD was selling us plumbing that was not up to code! Never again HD unless its something simple like a pretty clay pot.

  19. I tried to rent a floor sander at the Delridge store. I had my US passport for photo ID. The rental guy (Shawn) said it was not good enough, I needed a drivers liscense. I explaind that a passport was the most offical ID one can have but he still would not rent to me. I was so mad I called the corprate office spoke to Stephany (Assitant to the VP) and after being put on hold for over 15 minutes sha said they need to look into thier policy. I hate that store.

The biggest problem I have with the Delridge HD is they always seem to be out of what I need. Shelves are empty, packages are raided and pieces stolen. They don\'t store the same varieties of products that the downtown one has. I don\'t know why I keep going there first since it almost always ends as a wasted trip and extra gas to the downtown store. The staff is useless; my dog can find things faster in that store!

If you\'re listening HD, you\'re neighbors dislike you because your service sucks and you need to keep your supply up with your demand. I know you can afford it! So do us all a favor and make your store worth the soil it\'s taking up!

Last night we needed a hardware store after 8:00 p.m. and therefor it had to be HD. I was beyond skeptical that we would find the electrical part we needed (a porcelain ceiling light fixture with a pull chain). I almost needed smelling salts to revive me when an employee on the floor knew exactly what we were looking for; escorted us to the correct aisle (we were off an aisle or two) and then pulled off the shelf exactly what we needed. It gets better... he then suggested that the box should be opened and contents checked because sometimes porcelain fixtures like this can break in shipping. I was stunned.
Convinced? Nope. \"My store?\" Nope. McClendon\'s still has my heart; but this one time; HD worked well for our house.

I gotta chime in with props for True Value at the Junction. I have a hardware store fetish and spent half my childhood in them with my dad so I have VERY high standards, lol. TV is friendly and they know everything. There is a strong sense of ownership among the employees and it\'s clear they take pride in their work. McLendon\'s has some good people but their store is confusing and they can be a little snarky. Their plant section rules, though, TV wins the big prize.

I went to McLendon\'s with my handyman once to buy some piece of plumbing. He had problems installing it and called the plumbing staff person who gave him step-by-step directions. Handyman had to call another time and the staff person said he was getting off work soon and would come over and show him. WOW It turns out handyman got it figured out in short order and the McLendon\'s person never had to come over, but I was very impressed with his willingness to go above and beyond. I swear by McLendon\'s! I love the cashiers\' attitudes and the store\'s mish mash organization is part of the charm.

  25. acemotel,

If you like the mishmash at McLendons, you really should visit Hardwicks in the U-District.

Home Depot does reward their CEOs well however. Their compensation must be based on merit by the comments listed above.

CHICAGO (MarketWatch) -- Robert Nardelli, the former chief executive of Home Depot Inc., received compensation valued at $131.2 million in 2006, according to a proxy filed late Friday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

I don\'t disagree with the general sentiment on this thread, but I will say that there are some shining stars at the Delridge HD. A wonderful man named Edward runs the free kids project every 1st Saturday of the month. He\'s always in a wonderful mood and ensures that the kids have a great time.

  29. I completely agree, but have to say that I\'ve had trouble with every Home Depot in the region - from Bellevue to Tukwila, and even with the online folks. My husband and I tried to buy a 10x8 rug that ended up taking 2 months and MANY hours of legwork to get.
They had it hanging in the store, but we were told we could only order it through a catalog. Then we were told we could only order it online. Then we tried to use a $100 gift card online to purchase it....nobody could ever figure out how to make that work (and my husband is a manager for Amazon, so it\'s not like we usually have trouble figuring out online retail...). Then we finally went to another store, and had to wait four weeks for the rug because someone keyed it in wrong the first time.
In the Bellevue garden department, the kids running the register literally sighed and huffed every time someone would ask for help. Seriously?!
We absolutely love True Value and McLendon\'s, but the reality is that these stores don\'t always have what we need for all of our new projects in our new home... We try to stay away from Home Depot, but find that we have no other alternative sometimes.
