Hollywood actors living in Seattle area

  1. Here's a little diversion for everyone. Let's pick out Hollywood actors who currently live in the Seattle area. No former residents like Shirley MacLaine (Graham isn't really the Seattle area anyway.) And no "a couple of cameos" types like Cameron Crowe or the Wilson sisters.

I'll start with Russell Johnson, who lives on Bainbridge Island. He's been in well over a hundred productions, mostly villain types, and is probably best known as "The Professor" on "Gilligan's Island (1964-1967)." He auditioned for the lead role in "Ben Casey (1961-1966)," losing out to Vince Edwards. As far as I know, he still does voice work today. He'll be 86 this November.

  2. No time to find pics, I think Tom Skerritt and Grant Goodeve live around here somewhere.

Tom Skerritt definitely does, and I saw him at SIFF in 2006 (at "Who Killed the Electric Car?" to be precise).

I saw Elizabeth Mitchell "Juliet" from Lost downtown a few months ago, I think she lives in the area.

  5. Alex Borstein (MAD TV, Family Guy) lives on Vashon. So does John Ratzenberger (Cliff Claven from Cheers) and Berkely Breathed (Bloom County).

Rumor has it Johnny Depp was in talks to buy the old Stewart estate/ranch last summer, but it fell through.

  6. Not sure if he still does or not but John Ratzenburger is/was on Vashon

Skeritt might still live on Cap Hill. I use to see him out and about up there often, say five plus or so years ago.

Tom Skerritt has a home in the Lake Washington neighborhood and also a place in the San Juans. He does hang out on Capitol Hill and can be spotted downtown on ocassion. I haven't sited him in a year or more. I presume he is still here.
I'm so outta touch; half the people and t.v. shows (?) mentioned above I am clueless about.

Borstein is not a full time Vashon resident.
Ratzenberger and Breathed no longer live there.

Here's one for you: Lanny Rees, who now lives in south King County. Most of you aren't old enough to remember him*; he was a child actor in the late 40's and early 50's. He is most well known for playing Junior in the original Life of Riley tv series and the 1949 movie. Here's a blast from the past (I didn't recognize Jackie Gleason; he looks more like Danny Thomas. Lanny appears at about 3:40): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfnBXVA3S5g

Lanny was also in several Westerns, one of which happens to be airing this Saturday at 4:30 a.m. on TCM: "Home in Oklahoma" (Republic, 1946) with Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, Gabby Hayes, Carol Hughes, George Meeker, Frank Reicher, Arthur Space, Lanny Rees. Middling series entry has newsman Roy investigating the murder of a rancher who bequeathed his estate to 12-year-old Rees. True to the Republic formula, a spoiled niece (former Dale Arden Carol Hughes) is involved. Roy sings the title song, as well as "Hereford Heaven," a number written by Oklahoma governor Roy J. Turner.

    * I'm not old enough either; I worked with Lanny at Spokane Civic Theatre in the late 60's/early 70's. If you want to see his biography, search for "Lanny Rees: All-American Boy of the '40s".

I think Anne and Nancy Wilson BOTH still maintain homes and spend significant parts of their years up here, psps.

Speaking of musicians, Michael Shrieve, who played the drums for Santana at Woodstock when he was 17, lives in Seattle. Nice guy.
I told my cousin I made food for Dave Mathews at one of my restaurants, and she just about had a heart-attack. Frankly, I don't get it, but she and her friends think he's the greatest thing ever.

  14. I think that Elizabeth Mitchell lives on Bainbridge b/c my coworker has spoken to her on the ferry before. This was before I started watching Lost so I didn't really care, but since Juliet was one of my favorite characters, I may have to pay attention if I ever ride that ferry.

  15. ok - not an actor but big musician ....I could be wrong but I think I heard that Eddie Vedder (sp?) from Pearl Jam lives in West Seattle or did at one time. Could've been rumor too - not sure.

Eddie is in the area some. You can see him occassionally paddleboarding near Faunteroy Cove.

  17. Ed lives in a different house now but still in the same general area. Just trying to be discreet about where he actually lives :)

  21. Keep in mind, the city posts all that information on its web site, if you know how to type and use a mouse its right there for anyone to see. Actually, you don't even need to type, just use the mouse....

Access to information is one thing. Discerning why, how and when to desiminate it is another, as far as I'm concerned. Requires a certain nuance of judgment seemingly absent in many, for sure.

    Posted 1 year ago #
  23. Please. There are probably more than 250 homes on 44th in that area. If you really wanted to know, you wouldn't start walking up and down the street. All that information and much more are right there for anyone that wants to find it.

    Posted 1 year ago #
  24. Yes, it is all public. A onetime forum member causing trouble some time back actually e-mailed me with our address just to show that s/he knew exactly where we lived (not that we haven't dropped enough hints you'd figure it out anyway) and could easily find us. That still doesn't mean it's OK to post as a third party, here anyway, unless there's a matter of life/limb/police search. Thanks for the flags. Working on a LOT of news this morning so hadn't been here yet.

  25. i used to live up the hill from Eddie's property... he was a model neighbor.. you literally wouldn't know he was there :)

  26. I've been away for a few hours .. did someone post an address for a celeb? It appears so based on some of the responses. Just wonderin'.

Someone posted the street he lives on... or lived on, and in which neighborhood.

    Posted 1 year ago #
  28. I did. Actually, I posted the street, which seems to have a few peoples panties in a bunch. Not even his address, just the street. If you want to do you own little investigation, a great and easy place to start is....http://web1.seattle.gov/mnm/

Just put in an address and you will find complete information about a property in the city. King County (I am too lazy to find the link) also allows you to search for property owners by name.

  29. I love the fact that Eddie Vedder lives here and that it's such a well guarded secret where he actually lives. But I swear to you, everyone I know has an Eddie Vedder sighting story and I don't have one! I've lived here my whole life and haven't run into him once. I've heard he's a really cool guy though. He complimented my friend's haircut in a store a few months ago... sounds like it was life changing.

    Posted 1 year ago #
  30. i lived next to him and never saw or heard him :(
i moved and i saw him in our local independent bookstore...

    go figure.

    Not actors, but celebrities:

    Dave Matthews (musician)
    Ron Reagan Jr. (political commentator)

  33. Cait, we don't have a sighting story either and we live within blocks of the previously mentioned location, and frequently walk on a street that's even closer. Might have walked by him a thousand times though, I don't recognize people very well out of context.

A lot of retired sports athletes live here as well. Most notably is Bill Russell who has a condo here. He plays golf in the off-season at Fosters Links in Tukwila. He periodically commentates on the NBA for T.V.

  36. I was at Madison Trader Joes this last week and thought I saw John Alyward aka Dr. Anspaugh from ER. Then I thought, surely not.

When I saw this post I looked it up and turns out he's from Seattle so it probably was him. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Aylward

  37. Art Wolfe, world renown photographer, used to live in Fauntleroy area 10-12 years ago. Don't know about now, though.

Not an actor (musician), but I believe Brandi Carlile lives in Maple Valley. My partner ran into Danny Devito at the Admiral 7-11 a couple years ago. I think he was just in the area though, probably doesn't live here.

Saw John Aylward at Kingfish Cafe once actually. Art Wolfe is still here!
Saw Tom Skerritt at a gallery opening once as well.

I always just sorta glance at them nervously and then look away, not wanting to be one of "those" people who gets all up in their bid'ness. Afterward I always think, "Why didn't I just say hello or something?" Star struck!

OMG Jiggers - I THOUGHT I saw Bill Russell once and I thought I was imagining things cuz I barely know sports people.

That's amazing you mentioned that here. Always learn somethin' unexpeced on the forums, I tell ya'!

I don't know whether this was a rumor, but I recall hearing a few years back that James Brolin and Barbara Streisand were looking at propery around here - the San Juans, maybe? I think they were/maybe still are frequent tourists/renters around the water/islands. Or maybe they bought?

    Posted 1 year ago #
  41. 'dood, I seem to have a memory, lighting the corner of my mind, that Brolin and Streisand were indeed looking at property in the Puget Sound area.

@Guidosmom. You are right. She showed up to play a song at a concert I was at down at the White River Amphitheatre. She was friends with the band and since she lived here they invited here by.

  44. One day I struck up a conversation with a guy at Green Lake Playground and we were just chatting about parenting and it turned out to be Zaid Aziz (formerly Donald Smith) of the Sonics, from back when the Sonics were good (and here). Super nice guy. He is working as an alcohol and drug counselor in Seattle now.

  45. Joel McHale used to be on Almost Live, I believe. He's from Mercer Island.
