  1. Please sign this petition to help save Village Green Nursery. http://www.change.org/petitions/stop-foreclosure-2

"I have been trying for 17 months to get a loan modification with Bank of America, providing endless copies and resubmitting paperwork repeatedly.
They even went so far as to 'block' my account to prevent any payments to make sure my account went into late payment so as to 'help jump start the load mod action' as they put it! Is that legal?
As a business owner and well respected member of the community, I am ready to tmke this issue public.
This is my home as well as my job. I am a divorced, single mother of 2. I was recently awarded the house and property, as this is where my job is. I own and operate a Home based business (perennial Nursery) and educational center in a very culturally diverse community. This business hosts many classes... * Native Planting * protecting our watersheds * permaculture * sustainability * plantings for less water usage * composting * host schools and camps for classes/tours education * work with South Seattle Community College by proving internships and training programs I regularly work with many schools in the area, local non-profits, South seattle Community College and strive to bring community together by collaborating with other business owners in the White Center/Seattle area."

Signed it. Village Green is awesome and Vera has repeatedly donated her services and talents to help others in the community. Time to pay it forward.

  4. predatory lending practices have to stop!
I know another person who recently lost her house to the same sort of tactics...

we have to make it more expensive for a bank to forclose than to modify. Until then, good people will continue to be victimized by the system.

and yes.. i would sign for Village Green any day
    She has earned our support.

This is starting to feel a little like "It's a Wonderful Life.". Vera is our very own Jimmy Stewart and the West Seattle community wants to help give back for all that she's done for us. I hope everything works out.

  13. Hi Vera, I signed it. I'm so sorry you are going through this nightmare.

I heard a similar story a couple of weeks ago. A local couple was trying to refinance their mortgage. In order to qualify the bank/broker required the couple make a late payment on their loan. As soon as the mortgage was late, the bank started a foreclosure action.

Fortunately the couple had meticulous, written records of the entire transaction. I think they threatened legal action and the bank backed down.

Go get 'em. We all hope it works out for you. <3

  15. Can anyone tell me WHY Bank of America wants me to contact HUD when I have a conventional loan?
    What will that do?
Thank you for all of these words of support and loving thoughts.

  16. Don't mistake HUD with FHA. HUD provides additional resources for homeowners. Essentially, BofA is declining your modification and is pointing you to HUD for possible alternatives.

I would contact HUD to explore your options or, if possible, a real estate lawyer.

  17. I've never had the need to visit Village Green, but I signed the petition for two reasons:

Number one; From reading WSB, I know that Vera and Village Green are well respected in our community.

Number two; I'm sick an tired of the large banks treating small businesses, and working class people like this.

So much of what they and other large corporations do is highly unethical, and I, too, wonder why some of these practices aren't illegal.

Have you checked with the SBA?

We used John Llewelyn on California Ave for some house papers. Maybe he could help.

Signed the petition yesterday and Change.org has already sold my email address, so I'm getting "signature" requests from people I've never heard of. I'm not saying don't sign the petition, just be aware that your email address will be provided, very quickly, to others.

Yeah, I received an email from somebody too, but all ya' have to do is scroll to the bottom of the email and click unsubscribe and it won't happen again. Of course you won't be able to access change.org either until you give them another email address to vote. I use nonprimary email acct for this kind of online thing.

Thanks wsd, good advice--didn't think to look for that option.

And now back to our regularly scheduled outrage...

I got some stuff in my e-mail account also but all it took was a click on "unsubscribe" and I think it's all good now. It's worth it to help Vera. By the way, anybody need some plants? Might be a good time to support our neighbor. . . . .

sorry this is going on; while it's not a laughing matter, I thought anyone who's dealt with a bank for a mortgage would appreciate Cheryl Wheeler's song, 'We're The Bank':

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vNOaxGxQzQ

We're the Bank. We're not your friend. We want those records
And we want them sent this afternoon
Or your gross expenses will balloon
And you'll only have yourself to thank
Write "attention clerk", 'cause it's the way we work
    And we're the bank

We're the bank, get a grip, get in line
And in triplicate we'll need for sure
    Everything you've ever signed before
As to cost we haven't mentioned yet to you
You can bet on one thing,
You'll be at the closing when we do

Your tax returns are ours to keep, with what you earn
Until the final sleep, and even then
We've assured ourselves, at your expense,
Crossing t's and dotting all the i's
To be paid in full within a day or two
    Of your demise

And we will call, a million times, for bills and forms
That you will never find, and we'll insist
That without these we cannot progress
When we have these documents in hand
We'll assess time lost and probably raise your cost
    By several grand

We are the bank, with walls of stone, and heads of steel
And though in ads we're shown to smile and nod
This is PR if there ever was
So just forget that warm and friendly bit
Because I swear by god, it's a complete and utter
    Crock of sh!t

  30. Thank you all. I have made phone calls and emailed many of the suggested contacts. Waiting.
I hope that anyone facing forclosure, and this kind of stress, will come out this Sunday to the support group event this Sunday @ 4pm, at the nursery.
