Hello - I am going to start taking the 21 express down 35th to downtown in the morning, but the route has changed since I last took the 21 regularly. I don't understand the route map. It has a bunch of red dots indicating the express route downtown, but it just appears to circle 1st and 2nd and I can't tell which direction it is supposed to be going in. Where does the 21 go after getting off of the viaduct? If it goes left on 1st like it used to, does it later turn and go south on second. thanks!

Hi Oliver,
I haven't ridden the 21X in many years, but checking out the schedule info shows the following:
E-EXPRESS
To downtown Seattle, EXPRESS buses will make no stops between 35th Ave SW & SW Morgan St and Seneca St & 2nd Ave EXCEPT at 35th Ave SW & SW Avalon Way.K-Express arrives northbound on 3rd Ave & Pike St at this time. Travels via 3rd Ave, Stewart St, 2nd Ave to Marion St.
-------------------------------
It looks to me, like the inbound 21X follows much of the same routing Downtown as the 54/55, going straight up Seneca, after coming off of the Viaduct.
It looks like the first stop is on Seneca, just past 2nd, then a left turn onto 3rd. My guess is that it would make only one stop on 3rd, at Pike, before it turns left on to Stewart, then goes back down 2nd.
Hope this helps!

Mike, your guess is right. Its a great way to get downtown if youu are on the 21 route. The 21 local is less desireable right now. The construction on 1st Ave south of Safeco is tedious and adds minutes to the bus ride.
