i have an old friend coming to visit tomorrow for two days with a 1 yr old baby and all the things i planned for us to do are outdoors. it is supposed to rain and i am not sure if all my outdoor activities (essentially park walks, etc) will fly. i am in need of local places to go, things to do that would be do-able with a baby in nasty weather.

    Thanks for your ideas!!!

The childrens museum by the space needle is a wonderful place to take small children.

Check the libraries for toddler story times. (Barnes and Noble sometimes does them too, I think?) IIRC Delridge CC used to have an indoor playground that was open for folks to come to for a small fee, so that might be an option. You could go for a family swim at Southwest Pool too. Hop the Fauntleroy Ferry and ride across to Vashon or Southworth and back. Or just ride the water taxi across and back, maybe with a stop at the pier with the carousel(or at the Aquarium)?

I like the Seattle Aquarium. It's indoors and lots of cool stuff for the little one to see.

  5. Here is a list I put together for yelp awhile back. Don't know how many are good for 1 year olds but it's a pretty big list.

I think a one year old is a little young to do TOO much with. I would think they may tucker out pretty easily. They may be happy at your home with some toys, fun music and dance, or bubble bath/water toys(?)

  8. I have a baby who just turned one and is very active. During inclement weather, she really enjoys the Children's Musuem at the Seattle Center (Entertainment Book has 2-1 coupon), the small play area at Coffee to a Tea with Sugar in the Junction, play areas at local malls like Southcenter, library story times. There is a restaurant on Cap. Hill called Vios that is good and has a nice sized play area in the back with bar seating looking over it. If the weather is OK, she likes swings at local parks and Alki Beach.

  9. Yeah, a one year old is not going to stay awake or walk (at least not for long) so your choices are limited as far as entertainment. Keep it simple.

I think a day out on California Street - hit the toy store, and maybe grab a mini cupcake and coffee at that coffee shop close to Pegasus Book Exchange and Capers - I forget the name (nice play are in back for the little ones).

Or maybe hit up these cutie stores in WS: smallclothes, Georgia Blu, Again and A Gain.

There is Pajama storytime at the Delridge branch from 7-7:30pm. tomorrow night.

If you want to travel I hear this place is great!
    Tot Spot Cafe (Woodinville) http://www.totspotcafe.com/

Otherwise, do whatever you Moms want to do and the little one will just tag along! :)

    Judge Judy.

No, seriously, Coffee To A Tea With Sugar, next to the natural pet store on California Ave. is great. They essentially have an "indoor playground" while Mom & Dad can have coffee and a treat.

High Point Community Center has a toddler gym for the little ones to run and crawl around with lots of toys and activities.
