kindashelMemberAs sad as it is that a dog walker was shot, I wonder what real contibution to our safety and well being was provided by a KIRO-TV helecopter hovering noisly over our usually peaceful neiborhood? I would hope that other SWest Seattlites would let KIRO know how they feel about this invassive “news gathering” technique that does little to help solve this crime and only seems to exploit tradgedy for ratings.

dyn99ParticipantThere are multiple parked basically right on top of our house on Genesee Hill.
They are driving me nuts. It must be the BB bandit coming to get us all!!

jwwsParticipantIf it bleeds it leads, that’s news today folks and if you don’t like it move to the boonies, we all live in very close proximity to a major metro area despite our wish to be living on an isolated peninsula. Turn up the music or watch the Stanley Cup playoffs and you won’t hear the copters. And FWIW some one was injured and that trumps your silly noise comments….

kindashelMemberJWWS, I recognize your point of view, however IT was not a police helicopter. I question the TV station and its style of news gathering which does nothing to contribute to anyone’s well being or safety.

jwwsParticipantKindashel,
the news media, like WSB, listens to scanner traffic and this was probably reported as a shooting, hence the chopper response from local stations. It is over and those complaining about noise in early evening are a bit over the top, come on folks someone was injured and thankfully it was not more serious but media and police had no way of knowing at first response so if you don’t like it move to the boonies I guess because this will always happen in a metro area and that is what we are.

drdclaParticipantThere is no need for them to hover over homes for an hour. Especially if they have a police scanner, which will alert them to anything happening. It was loud and disruptive. Even the police helicopters move about and do not hover.

jwwsParticipantAnd the newscasts last an hour so they are all there trying to get the first story and trump the others, sorry that is the nature of the major news media. Not saying I agree with it but it is what it is…… We just put some music on….

dyn99ParticipantI am now more annoyed by your responses, JWWS, than I was the helicopter. Some of us value the peace and quiet that comes with living in WS compared to areas like Ballard or Capitol Hill.

jwwsParticipantDYN99,
It was a temporary inconvenience and not late at night so WTF, someone was injured and you are complaining about noise during legal hours for noise, get some Perspective. If you don’t want big city noise move to eastern WA. But you drop your dog’s poop in other people’s garbage cans with impunity so I don’t care about your opinion! ;-)

dyn99ParticipantOMG…really? You are going to bring that up again?
I was not bitching about police choppers, but news choppers parked in one place over my house. The least they could do is fly around a bit.
Unreal.
I am done with you.

QueenieParticipantIt seems like stating the obvious, but doesn’t it make sense that your ‘usually peaceful neighborhood’ would cease to be peaceful on a day that someone was shot *through* the cheek by a random stranger while innocently walking their dog? I have no idea how anyone could possibly rationalize waving off having a projectile fired by an unseen assailant *pierce your cheek* as nothing, but treat helicopter noise as the end of the world.
If you still need some sort of defense for the news choppers, then maybe helping to make the public aware about the still unresolved incident is enough? Or at least making the attempt to appeal for information or leads from the public? I would imagine the poor person who was shot would appreciate a resolution to this.

KenParticipantFor some with PTSD, helicopter noise IS the end of the world.

Personally I grew up with flocks of helicopters training for air cavalry and VN tactics several time a day flying so low the pilots waved back at us kids on the school playground so by highschool I did not hear helicopter noise until I noticed others looking up.
The city does not have enough decibel meters to properly enforce the anti noise ordinances on the books. Something MUST be done to curb the TV news disregard for its noise pollution.
I may be biased though. I hold tv news in the same regard I do a fresh dog turd in my shoe.
