Heating Oil Tank Filling

  1. I know this isn't exactly West Seattle related, but I bet a lot of us still have oil furnaces.

I'm finally caught up on paying for a full tank and am curious if there's any good advice for keeping it full going forward. I'm on an auto-fill plan now but I get the feeling they fill my tank based more on higher oil prices than when I actually need it.

I don't think I need it filled more than once a year, so basically my question is what is the best time of year to get my tank filled?

We don't do auto fill for just that reason. We have an oil measuring stick and when we get low call around for lowest prices. I've been told, and it used to be true :), that July and August are the cheapest months for purchasing heating oil. Not sure if it is still true since prices are all over the place now. I remember when heating oil was always a priced a lot less than gasoline..now it is about the same.
