This is a last resort. Our Jack Russell escaped or was taken from our backyard in Highland Park. 'Minty' is a 14lb White dog with a brown face and spots on body and tail. She is SUPER friendly. She's micro-chipped, but hasn't turned up at any shelters, vets, etc. We think someone may have fallen in love with her and is keeping her for themselves. Do you know anyone who has recently adopted a small white dog? THANK YOU

How sad! It is difficult to lose a family member and not know what has happened. If you haven't, please be sure to put this in the "Pets" section of WSB too.

Do you have a picture you can post? We have 2 JR's ourselves and know they are quite common in WS. A picture would definitely help corral any suspected doggie snatchers....

I think I saw her today! I am SO sorry! She looks a lot like one of my jacks. I was driving down 35th, she was on the corner of 35th and Raymond (right side of the street if going south). I couldn't stop because there were cars behind me so circled, she was gone by the time I got back. I have not been able to stop thinking about her and have been looking around since. I had both my jacks in the car but had an extra leash, so was going to catch her. I will continue keeping my eyes out. I am SO sorry. :(

After seeing her pic on the pets page, that was definitely her this afternoon. I drove around for about a half hour tonight in the vicinity and saw no sign of her. Sorry. I bet someone has found her and hopefully you will be reunited soon. Until then, I'll keep my eyes out.

VestaLight, Hope you find her and don't have to put up any more signs! If you do, putting the signs in ziploc bags may help. And flyers under people's door mats. Years, ago, that's how I found my missing cat. At least you know your furry family member is around.

Thanks! I will tell everyone I know to keep an eye out. I have an extra leash in my car just in case too. Both of my Jack Russells have escaped before, luckily it wasn't for long. I can't even imagine how you must feel. Minty is so sweet, I am sure someone found her and will turn her in. :)

VestaLight, I have put your phone number in my cell along with Minty's name. I would urge others to do the same. If by chance we see this sweetie I believe it is important to get her caretaker there as quickly as possible... and I don't want to have to wait until I can get back to the WSB forums to find your number.
    Good luck.

VestaLight, if you haven't coaxed Minty into your car by Saturday morning, please drop a bunch of flyers off at our plant sale and we will hand them out to people all weekend long. We get a lot of animal lovers at our sale, from all over West Seattle. 3809 46th Ave SW.

  22. I'm so sorry you are going through this. I have seen the flyers all over town and think you've done a great job getting the word out. Please let us know what happens.
It might be worth it to come by the dog show at Westwood Village tomorrow morning and hand out flyers there too - there should be a lot of concerned dog folks there!
    Good luck.

VestaLight is there a place she may be trying to find? Do you take her to a specific place for walking or the dog park? Added in my contacts as well and will keep an eye out and a leash (and a treat) with me at all times just in case she heads up to the Highland Park, Westcrest area.

BBGuest: That's actually where she lives. 10th and Barton in Highland Park. We frequent the park and the areas between Westwood Village and home. also go to Roxbury and 15th. (35th seems so far from home, but I've heard they can travel miles in one day.. and it's been a whole week.)

  29. Dog show will be on the main stage in front of Bed Bath & Beyond. Registration begins at 10am, show starts at 11.
Once our dog walked 7 miles back to our old house when we moved and ended up on the porch of the old house. It was empty but our former neighbor saw him and called us. They really are amazingly durable and who knows what can sway them in their paths, but definitely keep hope alive!
    Best of luck.

  36. I sent an email to the blog asking if we could get this information posted with our dogs info as well.

COMMANDS: come, down, sit, stay, touch, etc
    LOVES: balls, bananas, peanut butter
DISLIKES: men in hats, big dogs

As a trainer I think its important to put up this type of information so that if Mr. Joe sees your dog but has a hat on all he has to do is take it off and ask your dog to sit and you get your dog back vs the dog running away and never being found again.

    SDA: Great idea!

    COMMANDS: Sit, stay, roll over
LOVES: treats, other small dogs, sweet voices, Her name. 'Minty'
    DISLIKES: REALLY loud music, fireworks

Minty will react to her name being called: 'Minty,Minty' to Whistling 'Wheeet, Wheet, Wheet'

The dog show at WWV is Saturday? Thanks for the update. I will be around handing out info and putting up more signs. Might get my friend who has a dog to walk with me so Minty hears and smells a familiar canine. Any other tips from those who've had to search for their dogs? I've used FindToto.com ($$$), PetHarbor.com, Petfinder.com, PetAmberAlert.com. etc. Thanks to all of you on this forum.

Can't wait for the plant sale... sounds like a lot of good folks will be there. Also... while I was putting up flyers on California today, I ran into a gentleman who said he thinks he saw Minty down by 46th? 48th? Might have to expand my radius all the way to Alki... !!!!

I have been looking in back yards, walking alley ways with my dogs. There are a lot of kind people who might not know where to call or look, and just might be keeping her safe based on her friendliness factor. Also an fyi I had a stray that I took to be scanned at the vet office and their scanner did not read the chip. The Seattle Animal Control scanner did and the dog was returned to its owner ;-).

Thank YOU, Thank You... There seem to be a lot of missing animals this week. :( I REALLY hope they are somewhere safe and warm during this crummy weather. I have a hard time sleeping thinking of Minty and those little critters trying to keep warm.

Yikes! I hope her chip works, or the scanner! I check the Shelter dog log daily, ... hoping.

Excited about the events happening tomorrow, it really is awesome that there are sooo many great people in our neighborhoods.

Vesta, the charlabobs also check back a few times a day to see when Minty's home. (Maybe WSB could post a little headline on the blog when she comes back?) :-)

Yesterday, I almost snatched a dog who looked like her who was offleash--turns out she belonged to a neighbor, who apologized for having her dog slip the leash. The woman didn't know about Minty -- hard to believe everyone doesn't come here -- so she added your number and minty's picture to her Iphone. This networking stuff works for more than jobs. Minty IS coming home.
